Small Steps, Big Impact Through our Culture of Attendance

Learning is a journey, built day by day. When students attend regularly, they build deeper relationships, gain confidence, and stay connected to the rhythm of their learning. We are fostering a culture where presence is powerful, where every day brings purpose, growth and opportunity.

This culture of attendance is not about pressure, it’s about partnership and relationship. We are working closely with families to understand barriers, offer support, and celebrate milestones.

Through positive messaging, pastoral care, and practical resources, the College is committed to helping students feel that they belong, are known, and are missed when they’re not here.

Expert Staff and On-going Learning Enhancement

Term 2 concluded with a powerful focus on professional learning, underscoring our commitment to having expert staff who lead with knowledge, passion, and purpose. At Prince of Peace, we invest intentionally in our educators equipping them with the tools, insights, and innovations needed to shape a future-focused College where every student can thrive.

Shaping the Future: 2026 Subject Offerings Meeting Needs for a Changing Workforce

Prince of Peace Lutheran College is excited to announce future-focused refinement of its 2026 subject offerings, designed to more deeply engage learners and respond to the latest educational research and industry trends with Hubs for learning.

In an evolving global landscape where adaptability, creativity, and critical thinking are essential, the College is committed to shaping programs and the timetable, so students are equipped for academic success.  By aligning our curriculum with emerging insights into student motivation, learning science, and workforce transformation, we are intentionally designing learning experiences that are dynamic, relevant, and deeply personalised.

The changes reflect the College’s mission to be Christ-centred, cutting edge, and connected in community. We are not simply offering more subjects we are curating a future-ready learning environment. This is about embracing innovation while remaining true to our values. Our 2026 offerings will strengthen student voice, choice and pathways, ensuring our young people are inspired and equipped to thrive.

Research (Morgan, 2024; Tariq, 2024) shows that student agency, interdisciplinary learning, and real-world application are key to lifelong learning success. Prince of Peace is embedding these insights into its offerings while maintaining strong academic rigour, pastoral care and faith-based learning, and branching into extension programs for our gifted and talented students. The result: subjects that are not only academically relevant, but also emotionally and socially resonant for today’s learners.

This strategic change is part of the College’s broader commitment to excellence in education and its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, which places students at the centre of every decision. Parents, staff, and students will be actively engaged throughout the refinement process, ensuring shared ownership of a curriculum designed for a new era of learning.

Farewell to Our Business Manager – a rural lifestyle awaits

We extend our sincere thanks and warmest wishes to Donna Appelman our Business Manager, who is stepping away to embrace a more relaxed, tree-change lifestyle, later this year in September.

Throughout her time at Prince of Peace Lutheran College, Donna has shown great heart for our College. She has been a calm and capable presence, leading the business services team with diligence, professionalism, and genuine care. Her contribution has touched all areas of our College, from financial stewardship to facilities, systems, and the behind-the-scenes work that enables so much of what we do each day.

We are deeply grateful for the dedication and energy Donna has brought to her role, and we know many will miss her steady hand and thoughtful leadership.

While we will miss Donna’s presence and expertise from the beginning of September, we celebrate this exciting new chapter for her. May it be filled with peace, fulfilment, and the joy of a life more connected to nature. You will be missed! Thank you for everything, and enjoy the journey ahead!

2026 Calendar Update – Planning Ahead Together

We’re excited to share that the 2026 calendar structure, including student-free days, is now available. This key resource helps families plan ahead and supports our ongoing commitment to purposeful, balanced learning. These dates are available for download here, and are listed on the College website under the MyPoP menu at the very top of the page.

Behind the scenes, we’re also working on finalising dates for camps and major events for 2026.  Once confirmed (mid term), these dates will be added to the College Calendar, your go-to guide, easily accessible via the back of PopCorn, the Prince of Peace website, or our College app.

Let’s plan for a connected and exciting 2026, together!

Yours in Christ,

Dr Susan Carter
Head of College

Stay Connected with Our College Calendar

Looking to plan ahead or stay on top of upcoming school events? Our College Calendar is the best place to stay informed and organised!

The calendar is regularly updated and is a great tool for keeping up with College activities, events, key dates, and more. Whether you’re checking term dates, excursions, performances, or special celebrations, the calendar makes it easy to see what’s happening and when.

We especially recommend viewing the calendar via a computer through our College website, where it displays each month in a clear, easy-to-read format. The calendar is also colour coded for ease of use – the Junior Campus activities are blue, the Senior Campus activities are maroon and whole College activities are black.

If you follow our ‘The Week Ahead’ social media posts on Sunday evenings, you’re already seeing a snapshot of what’s listed in the calendar!

👉 To view the calendar, visit: [Insert link here]. You can also view the calendar via our website’s Home Page. It is located next to the SEQTA logo at the very top of the page.

Did You Receive Our Flyer?

In May and June, our College distributed flyers to homes across the northside of Brisbane to help raise awareness of the amazing learning community here at Prince of Peace.

We’re keen to know how far the word has spread — and we’d love your help! Did you or someone you know receive one of our flyers in your letterbox?

Your feedback is incredibly valuable and will help us improve how we connect with families across the community.

Please take a moment to complete the short questionnaire — it only takes a few seconds, and your input makes a big difference!

Thank you for your continued support in helping us share what makes Prince of Peace so special!

Looking After Student Mental Health at PoP

At Prince of Peace Lutheran College, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our students is always a top priority. We understand that some young people may face significant mental health challenges during their school years, and we are committed to responding early and compassionately.

If a student ever shares thoughts of suicide or significant emotional distress, we follow a clear and timely process to ensure they receive the right support as soon as possible. In the rare cases where a concern is considered high-risk, families may be encouraged to take their child to the Queensland Children’s Hospital for a mental health assessment. If this ever happens, either myself (Ally, the School Counsellor) or the Head of Campus will call you directly to talk things over and guide you gently through the next steps.

The Mental Health team at the Queensland Children’s Hospital are wonderful—they specialise in working with young people, and a visit there can help bypass the long wait times involved in seeing a GP, getting a referral, and then accessing a psychologist. It also provides opportunities to tap into other resources and specialists.

With the current media spotlight on youth mental health, we want to reassure our POP families that a calm, caring, and clear process is in place to support our students.

If you have any questions or would like to talk more about how we can support your child’s mental health, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Warmly,

Ally Butler
School Counsellor

Uniform Expectations – A Reminder for Families

Our College Uniform is a key part of our identity and helps foster a strong sense of belonging, respect, and pride in our community. As we move through the term, we ask for your continued support in ensuring students are meeting our uniform expectations—particularly around grooming, jewellery, and the wearing of hats.

Grooming and Hair

Students are expected to maintain conservative hairstyles and be neatly groomed at all times. Hair must be:

  • A natural colour with no obvious colour contrasts
  • Styled so that the College hat can be worn correctly
  • Tied up if shoulder-length or longer, using a tie or band similar in colour to the hair. White, navy or royal blue ribbons/scrunchies are also acceptable
  • Short hair must be no shorter than a No. 1 blade
  • Styles such as undercuts, long fringes, rat’s tails, or other extreme fashions are not permitted
  • Boys must be clean-shaven

Jewellery

Our uniform policy allows for only minimal jewellery:

  • A simple cross or Christian symbol on a fine chain
  • One small pair of studs or plain gold/silver sleepers in pierced ears
  • No additional piercings or rings
  • Watches are permitted

Hats – No Hat, No Play!

Hats are an essential part of the school uniform:

  • They must be worn to and from the College, when off campus, and whenever outside a building unless otherwise instructed by a teacher
  • A regulation College hat is required during play and sports
  • The principle of “no hat, no play” applies all year round

Thank you for your support in maintaining our high standards and helping students wear their uniform with pride. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s class teacher, pastoral care teacher or the College office.

Spotlight on PoP Staff!

This fortnight, we invite you to get to know another of our dedicated Learning Enrichment Officers and Aides— the unsung pillars of support working beside teachers that make such a big difference.

Welcome Back to Term 3 – A Grateful Pause

I’m so thankful for the opportunity to rest and recharge over the holidays, enjoying precious family time and the privilege of attending my eldest son’s recital in Amsterdam. It was a special season of travel and connection and I couldn’t help but feel blessed.

Since returning this week to the Junior Campus, I’ve loved hearing so many fabulous holiday stories from students and families—what a joy to share in those moments of refreshment together.

Term 3 – A Season of Excitement

Term 3 is always an exciting time in the College year, filled with memorable experiences and community moments. There are going to be a busy few weeks, so plan early and hold tight for all the fun.  Here are but a few date claimers.

  • Year 3, Year 5 and Year 2 Camps – Outdoor adventures, new friendships, and special memories in the making.
  • Grandparents Day Friday 15 August – A cherished opportunity to welcome and celebrate the special people in our students’ lives.
  • Book Week Parade on Tuesday 19 August – Get those costumes ready! We can’t wait to see our students bring their favourite book characters to life.
  • Bush Dance Friday 20 August – Get your boots ready! This fun-filled community event is sure to be a highlight of the term.

Wearing It With Pride

A reminder to all families about the importance of wearing the correct College uniform each day. The uniform is a visible sign of belonging and helps reflect the pride we take in our school community. We’ll be following up with students this term to support consistent expectations around correct footwear, hats, and grooming as per the previous article above. Thank you for your partnership in helping every student represent the College with care and respect.

Farewell Mrs Jacobs

At the end of Term 2, Mrs Bronwyn Jacobs resigned. A warm and caring presence in our front office and First Aid, Mrs Jacobs supported students, staff and families with genuine kindness and compassion.

While she has made the decision to move on, her gentle nature and calm reassurance will be deeply missed. We thank her for her service and wish her all the very best for what lies ahead.

While we bid farewell to Mrs Jacobs, you may have noticed a new voice on the end of the phone or in First Aid.  Mrs Alanah Grant has joined the Junior Campus team and I’m sure you will make her feel welcome.

Parent Teacher Student Conversations

Thank you to all families who participated in our recent parent-teacher –student conversations. Parent–teacher–student conversations are a valuable opportunity to articulate learning goals, celebrate progress, and work together to support each child’s ongoing growth and improvement. If you were unable to attend, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher to arrange a time to connect.

If you have more pressing concerns, feel free to reach out to our Junior Campus PA, Mrs Jenell Molkentin, who can direct your enquiry to the most appropriate person, Learning Enrichment, Junior Campus Learning Coach or Head of Campus.

Be Blessed

In Every Bump, a Blessing

Welcome to Term 3 at Prince of Peace Lutheran College! We are excited to embark on another productive and enriching term together as we explore new subjects and deepen our understanding. Let’s make the most of this term and continue fostering our strong spirit of learning and collaboration within our community!

Adversity is often the soil in which resilience takes root. This week, as our Year 9 students journeyed to Binga, they were given opportunities not only to connect with nature and each other, but to grow in character through challenge. These moments, some big, some small, help shape the confidence, courage, and compassion that resilience is built upon.

Alongside our students’ growth, we witnessed many undeniable God moments which helped our staff to grow also. One in particular stood out to me: Ms Templeton wasn’t meant to be travelling in my car with me up to Binga, but due to a last-minute change, she joined me.

As we travelled the D’Aguilar Highway, one of my tyres completely blew out on a stretch of road where we hadn’t passed anything for kilometres. And yet, right where it happened, we were able to pull into a quiet dairy farm with a flat driveway. No semi-trailers on the road at that moment. Calm. Safe. Ms Templeton was able to change the tyre, and the farmer gave us the name of a nearby tyre shop.

When I rang, the owner said it was unlikely he’d have the tyre we needed, but sure enough, when he checked, he had just one in stock. Another God moment.

When we finally arrived at Binga, we were met with smiling, safe students and glowing feedback from the camp staff about how respectful and well-mannered our young people were. It was a reminder that even in the moments of stress or disruption, God walks with us, especially in the hard times, gently encouraging us to trust in Him.

Class, Character, and Celebration: Prince of Peace Shines at Formal

Our Year 12 Formal was a truly special evening, filled with joy, elegance, and a deep sense of community as we celebrated the Class of 2025. The students carried themselves with grace and maturity, making the night one to remember.

At the end of the evening, the venue manager and several staff members approached our staff to say that this was the best group of students they had hosted all year. In fact, every year that Victoria Park has hosted our formals, they’ve told us that Prince of Peace students consistently set the benchmark. We are incredibly proud of our young people, not just for how they celebrated, but for the way they represented themselves and our College.

SET Plan meetings for Current Year 10 Students

We are planning SET Plan meetings for 4 – 22 August, during Weeks 4,5 and 6. Direct messages will be sent out shortly to current Year 10 students (going into Year 11 in 2026) inviting them to book in into their meeting via SOBS.

Middle Leadership Program

This year, we’ve continued to build on our existing Middle Years Leadership Program, led by Mr Robert Smith. The program is designed to equip our young men and women with a future-focused skill set, preparing them to lead with integrity, confidence, and compassion. By expanding on the strong foundations already in place, we are introducing new leadership workshops, service opportunities, and mentoring experiences. Through these, students are learning what it means to influence others in positive and purposeful ways. We are committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders who will serve their communities with both courage and care. Stay tuned for more information about this wonderful program.

Staff Farewells and Warm Welcomes

As we move into Term 3, we farewell Mrs Elizabeth (Buffy) McNamara and Mrs. Mary Bergmeier, who finish their time at Prince of Peace at the end of Week 2. We thank them both for their dedication, care, and the contributions they have made to our College community. They leave with our heartfelt appreciation and best wishes for the journey ahead.

We are also pleased to warmly welcome Mr Bruce Hardy back to Prince of Peace. Bruce brings a wealth of experience across education, coaching, and construction. His passion for making learning meaningful through real-world applications, along with his strong rapport with students, will be a wonderful addition to our Mathematics team.

Joining us in the HPE space is Mr Jackson Rigby, who brings experience across both primary and secondary education. Jackson has led inclusive programming, interschool sport, and wellbeing initiatives, and his background in coordinating large-scale events and coaching a wide range of sports will be a great asset to our HPE program.

We are excited for the term ahead and grateful for the team of passionate educators supporting our students.

The MSC Team wish all our staff and families a blessed and joyous Term 3.

New PoP Sports Cap Introduced for Senior Campus Students

We are excited to announce a new addition to the Prince of Peace uniform for our Year 7–12 students—the PoP Sports Cap, officially available from last Monday 14 July (Term 3, Week 1). This new cap option comes as a result of the introduction of sports caps at NISSA events, the opportunity it presents for increased team spirit, and overwhelmingly positive feedback from our recent uniform survey.

Survey results from our Middle and Senior Campus families clearly showed support for introducing a sports cap:

  • 88% supported wearing the cap at NISSA competitions
  • 85% supported wearing the cap during PE lessons
  • 83% supported wearing the cap during lunchtime sport

In response, the College has approved the PoP Sports Cap to be worn with the Sports Uniform only. Students are still welcome to wear the existing bucket hat for sport-related activities, and sun safety remains a key priority—we continue to encourage daily sunscreen use. Please note that the PoP Sports Cap is not permitted with the Formal Uniform.

The cap is available for purchase for $19.95 from:

  • The Campus Uniform Shop (located on the Junior Campus)
  • The School Locker at North Lakes

We look forward to seeing students wear their new caps proudly as part of their sporting attire and thank families for their strong support in helping shape this uniform update.

Blessings,

Coreta Lennon

Senior Campus Uniform Updates – Shirts & Hats

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance comfort, consistency, and pride in our College uniform, we would like to remind families of upcoming changes to Uniform Option B (traditionally referred to as the boys’ uniform) and inform you of a change to the Senior Formal hat policy.

👕 Uniform Option B – Shirt Transition

We are currently phasing out the traditional blue formal shirt, replacing it with a white shirt that has been designed to be worn untucked, over shorts or trousers. This change reflects a more modern and practical approach to uniform.

Key details:

  • The blue formal shirt will continue to be sold until existing stock is sold out.
  • As individual sizes in the blue shirt sell out, the new white shirt will become available in those sizes.
  • Both the blue and white shirts may be worn until December 2028.
  • From January 2029, only the white shirt will be permitted for students selecting Uniform Option B.

We encourage families to factor this transition into future uniform purchases.

🎩 Senior Formal Hats – Years 7–12 from 2026

From January 2026, the Senior Formal hat, which was previously worn only by students in Years 10–12, will become the required formal hat for all students from Years 7–12.
This change ensures a consistent formal appearance across the Senior Campus and supports our College standards of presentation.

We recommend that families of students in Years 7–9 take this upcoming change into account when purchasing new hats over the coming months.

We thank you for your continued support as we maintain and refine a uniform that reflects the values and standards of Prince of Peace Lutheran College.
If you have any questions regarding these updates, please contact the Uniform Shop or College Administration.

Peace to you,

Wendy Bowen
Director of Teaching and Learning

Guided by Grace

Sunday 22 June, was a special day for our College community, as two of our incredible Middle School leaders – Sage Handley and Amelia “Milly” Savaille – took part in the Confirmation service at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Nundah. After a year of growing in their faith through a Confirmation program built on Martin Luther’s Small Catechism, both girls shared personal reflections during the service.

Sage spoke beautifully about how her faith in Jesus brings her strength and meaning, especially during times of adversity. Milly also shared how her journey with Jesus gives her the confidence to face challenges and reach her God-given potential. Both students highlighted the verse Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Their words were inspiring reminders of how faith can shape our lives. Sage and Milly are shining examples of the heart and spirit of our College community – faithful, hopeful, and courageous.

TAFE at School

We are excited to share that students in Years 10 – 12 will continue to have the opportunity to explore a variety of TAFE (Technical and Further Education) courses as part of their senior schooling journey. These courses offer valuable hands-on learning experiences, practical skills development, and nationally recognised qualifications — providing an excellent pathway into future employment, apprenticeships, or further study.

Expressions of interest for these programs will open on Monday 21 July at 9.00am.

You can view an online course book here >

How to Submit an Expression of Interest

To submit an Expression of Interest for a 2026 TAFE at School Program, students will need to:

• Visit tafeapply.com
• Enter the expression of interest code that matches the campus and program that they’re interested in. These codes can be found here >

Students will receive notifications for successful applications from Term 4 via an email.

Swim Teacher Training Courses

I’m pleased to advise the Swim Teacher training courses are available again this year. The S2WT – Swim Teacher Program offers a Swimming Teacher Skill Set (5 competencies) which will provide students the required accredited training to become a learn to swim teacher.  There is currently a critical skills shortage of swim teachers, so students who undertake the training and become competent are highly likely to find casual employment with a local swim school.

There is only one course scheduled for 2 & 3 August at Burpengary Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

The course is available for students in Years 10, 11 and 12.  Participation in this project is of no cost to students as it is fully funded by the Queensland Government.   Students will also receive funding for completion of CPR training and Blue Card.

Please note: the program strictly targets enrolled school students aged 16 years and older from the Moreton Bay region.  Interested students are required to have a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability to perform the required aquatic skills.  Any interested students should ask Mrs Grosas for a consent form. Once completed, send this to sonya.brewer@aqia.org.au as soon as possible.   You will then receive an enrolment form.

Please download this PDF for further information  >

If you have any further questions regarding anything what TAFE is offering, please contact me via a direct message.

BOSL Basketball

Since my last POPCORN write up, the BOSL basketball boys played a number of games to finish off their season. They came up against Bray Park in the last round robin fixture. Bray Park were undefeated for the season and were just too strong, taking out the win 64-33. This left PoP in second position on the ladder, which meant that we were to play Mueller for a spot in the grand final. The boys played a great game against Mueller, even with the scoreboard and timer deciding to turn off half way through the 2nd half! The boys controlled the game really well, taking the win 30-24, with Luis Mortimer scoring 13 points.

This win set up a Grand Final game with Albany Creek SHS, a team that we had actually not played against this season but a team that defeated Bray Park so we knew that we were in for a tough game. Albany Creek got out to an early lead but the PoP boys were able to bridge the gap and were only down by 4 at half time. After some encouraging words from Mr Russell and former student Ned Dyer, the boys came out in the 2nd half and started to get the ascendency down the defensive end. With less than 20 seconds on the clock, Rhys Griffin grabbed an offensive rebound and landed the put back shot to put the boys into the lead at 38-36. Albany Creek had no answers with their final possession handing the championship to PoP for the 2nd time in 5 years! Rhys Griffin ended up with 13 points, with Max Horgan scoring a couple of 3 pointers, adding 11 points to the total. The boys had a fantastic season, often only have 5 players for each game, sometimes less.

Special mention to Max Horgan and Thomas Quine who also were also selected in the team of the competition. Well done boys!

Gala Celebration of Music 2025

Thank you all for a great and successful Term 2 for Music, Drama and Visual Art. We are such a very rich department with so much talent and so many students involved. Perhaps it took something like the Arts Showcase to actually see that. Now I can’t wait for the Gala Celebration of the Arts in the last week of Term 3 on Thursday 18 September 6pm with the theme ‘THE MOVIES’. We loved the formula including dramatic presentations, visual art work, and students from the Junior Campus. Expect more of that, along with more yummy food to share and prizes to win.

Congratulations to CELADON members Jacob Howard-Taylor, Wyatt Handley, Georgia Bean, Sam Roche, Eva Shaw and Sage Handley for their Battle of the Bands VICTORY on the final day of last term. Our guest judge Oscar Borschmann was very complimentary of the quality of all of the band performances and certainly there were some good challenges to keep the standards high. It was especially impressive to see and hear some younger talent coming through. Remember that the pathway to success is little and often. Celadon members share with me that really they had a significant advantage because they had been working together weekly for several years now.

Let that be the take away for you all as we move into Term 3. Rehearsals make all of the difference. We are all looking forward to our Gala in week 10 with the MOVIES theme. We are thinking through our costumes and planning our repertoire. Make sure that if you have made a commitment to an ensemble, that you are disciplined in your preparation and attendance in the rehearsal phase because that will ensure both your and our enjoyment on the night.

There are plans for guest artists, and for some past students to join us.

The cultural heart of Prince of Peace Lutheran College is alive and well!

Stay tuned for more…

There’ll be songs, stories, and opportunities for children to engage with the message in meaningful ways, and the church is excited to create a welcoming space to celebrate our shared community of faith.
