Navigating Change, Shaping Futures: Our College at the Cutting Edge
Australian education is shifting rapidly. With the rise of AI, an emphasis on future skills, and a renewed national focus on student wellbeing and engagement, schools across the country are being challenged to rethink how learning is delivered and what success looks like in the 21st Century.
At Prince of Peace Lutheran College, we understand that today’s students are growing up in a rapidly evolving world, one shaped by emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and constant digital innovation. In response, we are not only embracing these changes but also drawing on current research to guide how we prepare our students to engage with them thoughtfully, safely, and skillfully (McDiarmid & Zhao, 2022). Our strategic focus areas, including PoP Pathways, PoP Connect, PoP Active, and PoP Enrich, align with national trends that prioritise personalised learning, digital fluency, and connected communities.
We go beyond simply using technology in the classroom. Our focus is on helping students navigate the complexities of the digital world, developing critical thinking, ethical awareness, digital literacy, and the ability to discern truth from misinformation. Through our innovative curriculum and future-focused programs, students explore how to use cutting-edge tools not just for consumption, but for creation, collaboration, and positive impact.
In doing so, we empower them to become confident, capable learners who can adapt to new challenges and lead with integrity in a tech-driven world. As part of our Christ-centred mission, we guide students to use their gifts responsibly and faithfully in service to others.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).
Creating a Safe and Caring Community
At Prince of Peace Lutheran College, the safety and wellbeing of every student is at the heart of all we do. We are deeply committed to fostering a community where every child feels safe, supported, and valued. Guided by the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act, our policies and practices are designed to create a protective and accountable environment for all.
Every staff member, volunteer, and visitor at our College is required to meet strict screening standards, including a valid Blue Card, and must complete both Child Protection Training and Valuing Safe Communities Training. These are just some of the ways we ensure that those entrusted with the care of our students uphold the highest standards of safety and integrity.
We regularly review and strengthen our procedures so that Prince of Peace continues to be a place where students can learn, grow, and thrive in a secure and nurturing environment.
Students are encouraged to speak with someone they trust, whether it be their teacher, our College Counsellor Ally, College Chaplain Reilly, or a Head of Campus, or the Head of College, if they ever feel unsure or unsafe. Our staff are trained to respond through clear and mandatory reporting processes that prioritise the welfare of each child.
For more information, we invite you to visit the Policies section on our College website, where you can view our Child Protection Policy and Child Protection Risk Management Strategy.
Together, we are building a community of care, trust and safety for every child entrusted to us.
Yours in Christ,
Dr Susan Carter

What is something you’ve loved or learned during your time at Prince of Peace?
I’ve truly loved the joy of working with our students. The warmth, enthusiasm, and kindness they bring to school every day is exceptional and inspiring. I’ve also deeply appreciated the strong partnership with our parents- their gratitude and support, even for the smallest acts of care we offer their children, have been incredibly uplifting. It’s been a privilege to be part of such a compassionate and connected community.
What sets Prince of Peace apart is the strong sense of community and shared commitment among staff, students, and parents. There’s a real spirit of teamwork here, everyone works together with care and purpose to support our students. It’s a place where people go above and beyond, and that makes a meaningful difference every day.
What is one fun or surprising fact about you that people might not expect?
When I was young, I dreamed of becoming a scientist and working with NASA. I pursued that dream by earning a bachelor’s degree in physics, however, along the way I discovered a deep passion for Chemistry, which led me to complete a Master’s degree in that field. Now, I’m planning to begin my Doctorate shortly—so the scientific journey continues, just in a slightly different direction than I first imagined!
What’s something that always brings you joy, no matter what?
My family always brings me joy, no matter what. They are the foundation of the care, love, and respect I’m able to offer my students. And when my students come to me with their success stories, it feels like I’m on top of the world. Moments like those remind me why I do what I do.
What drew you into working in education—and what keeps you in this field?
I had a deep belief in the power of learning to transform lives and I truly feel like teaching is in my DNA. My father is a university dean, and my mother retired as a school principal. Growing up, I watched my father invest not only his time but also his own money to support students who couldn’t afford higher education. My mother, even after school hours, would spend extra time helping students with learning difficulties, ensuring no one was left behind. That kind of dedication shaped my view of what it means to be an educator. What keeps me here is that same sense of purpose – the chance to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life, just as I saw my parents do every day.
One value that’s really important to me—both in life and in my work—is commitment; commitment to people, to purpose, and to doing what’s right, even when it’s difficult.
I’ve seen this value deeply reflected in my own family. My father supported students financially so they could pursue higher education, and my mother dedicated countless hours after school helping children with learning difficulties. Their example taught me that every child deserves an educator who refuses to give up on them-someone who sees their potential, even when they can’t see it themselves.
That belief continues to guide me today. My husband and I currently sponsor three children in their education, because we believe in creating opportunities for others to grow and thrive. That’s the kind of commitment I strive to bring into my work every day- with compassion, purpose, and the unwavering belief that every child deserves a chance.
What motivates you on tough days?
What motivates me on tough days is the belief that every child deserves someone who won’t give up on them. Even when things feel overwhelming, I remind myself that just being present and consistent can change a student’s life. One of my students once gifted me a card with my Favorite quote by Brené Brown and wrote, ‘Mrs. Rajput, I want you to know that you have contributed to my life.’ Moments like that remind me that the work we do reaches far beyond the classroom. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.

100 Days Brighter at Prep
Last week, our Prep students reached an exciting milestone — 100 Days of Learning! To celebrate, our classrooms came alive with bright colours, big smiles, and boundless energy as we marked 100 Days Brighter.
Dressed in all the colours of the rainbow, our littlest learners showed just how far they’ve come — growing in confidence, curiosity, and creativity. Each day in Prep is a step into wonder, and this celebration was a joyful reminder of the colour of learning and the delight of discovery. Here’s to the next 100 days of questions, laughter, and learning adventures!
As we celebrated our current Preps’ 100-day milestone, it is always a delight to meet our 2026 Prep students during enrolment interviews. One eager little learner, when talking about 100 Days Brighter, proudly declared, “100 is a big number! It’s the biggest number!” before thinking and then asking, “What’s the biggest number there is?” It was a lovely reminder that curiosity and questioning are already alive and well in our future Preps — and that the journey of joyful learning truly begins long before the first day of school.

National Science Week at PoP!
We’re celebrating National Science Week with curiosity and creativity!
Our Learning Coach, Ms. Naomi Walsh, has organised a range of fun science activities during break times to spark wonder and exploration across the Junior Campus.
To top it off, our Year 6 students will head to the Senior Campus on Friday to enjoy the exciting Street Science Show — a hands-on experience guaranteed to inspire future scientists!
How will you science this National Science Week?
Bullying No Way! — Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.
This year, our Junior Campus will acknowledge Bullying No Way Day on Thursday 14 August, with the national theme “Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.” At Prince of Peace, we are committed to nurturing a culture of respect, kindness, and belonging—where bullying is never accepted and every child feels safe and valued.
Our Year 6 teaching team and student leaders will take the lead in guiding and facilitating the day’s activities, supported by classroom teachers who will deliver lessons focused on understanding and preventing bullying. This leadership opportunity allows our senior students to model empathy, courage, and responsibility to younger peers.
All students are invited to wear something orange, purple, or both to show their support for the cause.
Throughout the day, each class will contribute to a whole-Junior Campus collaborative artwork, inspired by the vibrant circle-themed creations of artist Wassily Kandinsky. Each child will design their own concentric circle to reflect their individuality and belonging, and these will be joined together by our Year 6 students to form a large mural—visually representing the message that we are all unique and deeply valued members of one united community.
Together, we will be bold, be kind, and speak up.
2026 Prep Connect Sessions
We’ve begun welcoming our 2026 Prep students to our Prep Connection Sessions in the Library — a wonderful time filled with activities, singing, stories, and the chance to get to know one another. These sessions mark the beginning of each child’s journey into our school community.
At Prince of Peace, we believe that raising a child is a shared journey — one that flourishes in strong, supportive communities. We’re proud to walk alongside our families as we grow together in care, connection, and shared purpose.
In the coming weeks, you may see a few of our future Preppies popping in — we warmly welcome them and their families as they begin this exciting new chapter.
Road Safety Reminder – Let’s Keep Our Kids Safe!
A friendly (but firm!) reminder to all families:
- Be patient – good things (and safe kids) come to those who wait!
- Stick to the designated pick-up zones – please don’t collect your child from the bus pick-up area. Our buses need clear access at all times and cars need to be able to see your child.
- No Parking means just that – especially Monday to Friday, as our buses struggle to get around when cars are in restricted zones.
- Supervise little feet – if you’re having a chat, keep an eye on your children. Our lovely neighbours in Single Street prefer their trees upright, unshaken, and unscaled — no surprise tree-climbing adventures, please!
- Slow down – it’s a school zone, not the Bathurst 1000!
- Give way as you exit – please remember to give way to traffic when leaving the College grounds. A quick pause and a careful check keeps everyone safe and traffic flowing.
Little ones move fast and are hard to spot — it only takes a moment for an accident to happen. Let’s all play our part and put safety first. Thank you for your help.
Save the Date – 2025 Father’s Day Breakfast
“Celebrating the Strength of Fathers in Community – Dads, Donuts and Design!”
We warmly invite all Kindy to Year 6 dads — and the special men in our lives — to join us on Wednesday 3 September, 7:45am–9:15am for our Father’s Day Breakfast.
Enjoy barista-made coffee, fresh donuts, and classroom visits with your child(ren) as we honour the men who uplift, unite, and inspire our community.
We look forward to sharing this special morning with you! Stay tuned for further information via SEQTA. We can’t wait to welcome you.
Be Blessed

Welcome Back from Binga!
Last week marked the end of an incredible Mt Binga experience for our Year 9 students, culminating in a heartfelt and joy-filled Family Day.
Over the past three weeks, students have stepped well outside their comfort zones, embraced new challenges, and grown in ways that will continue to shape their character, mindset, and relationships for years to come.
From developing practical life skills and deepening self-awareness to building resilience, independence, and teamwork, each student has strengthened future-focused capabilities that will serve them in all areas of life, both at school and beyond.
We are incredibly proud of every student. Their courage, growth, and commitment throughout the experience has been truly inspiring.
A sincere thank you to the staff and families who supported them through this transformational journey. Your care and encouragement made all the difference. We cannot wait to hear all the wonderful stories that our students have to share.

Bases Loaded: Archer and Parker Step Up on the Diamond
We are proud to celebrate two talented Year 7 students, Archer Nicol and Parker Blowes, who were recently selected to represent the Brisbane Metro U14 Blue Baseball Team at the Timberjacks Tournament in Lismore from 11–13 July.
The tournament was Archer’s first experience playing on a Junior League field, stepping up from Intermediate League distances. Over five weeks of intense training and five fiercely contested games, the Metro team finished 2nd in their pool and 4th overall.
Archer took on the challenge of playing outfield and second base positions which are new to him, and performed admirably with 7 stolen bases, 3 runs, and only one strikeout from 8 at-bats. His hours of practice paid off, consistently hitting into the outfield and showing composure under pressure.
One standout moment saw him catch a fly ball at second with the sun in his eyes, followed by a clean field and throw for a double out.
Looking ahead, Archer will compete in the Futures League across August and September and will join the Australian Down Under team during the September holidays in an international tournament, an exciting opportunity to be seen by American College scouts and ex-MLB coaches.
He’s also been named to the Met North Boys Softball Team, with a chance at selection for the Queensland side following an upcoming tournament in August.
We celebrate the dedication, humility, and perseverance of both Archer and Parker as they represent themselves and our College with pride on and off the field. Keep swinging, boys!
Bullying No Way! Day
Next week marks Bullying No Way Week (11th–15th August), a national initiative focused on raising awareness, promoting kindness, and standing together to say that bullying is never okay. To acknowledge this important message and to encourage a culture of inclusion, respect, and empathy within our school community, we will be holding a Wear Purple Day on Thursday 14 August.
Students are invited to wear a splash of purple, a shirt, accessory, or full outfit, to show their support for a safe and supportive school environment where everyone belongs. We encourage all students to get involved and wear purple with pride as a visible reminder that our school stands united against bullying in all its forms. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation to support this cause.

Choosing Subjects for Next Year – What Really Matters
As subject selection season approaches, many students (and families) begin asking the same question: How should I choose my subjects for next year?
A common myth persists that choosing only high-scaling subjects like Specialist Maths, Physics, or Chemistry is the key to achieving a high ATAR. However, our past high-achieving graduates consistently show that success comes from a very different strategy—choosing subjects you enjoy and excel in.
When students choose subjects they’re genuinely interested in, they are more engaged, motivated, and likely to succeed. In contrast, selecting subjects based purely on perceived ATAR advantage can backfire, especially if the workload becomes overwhelming or the student loses interest.
Here are some helpful tips to guide your subject selection:
- Play to your strengths: Choose subjects you enjoy and perform well in. Achieving strong results (e.g., an A in a subject you like) often leads to a better outcome than struggling in a harder subject.
- Manage your workload wisely: Struggling with difficult subjects may drain your time and energy, impacting your performance across the board.
- Don’t choose based on teachers: Staffing can change from year to year—choose the subject, not the teacher.
- Do your own research: Don’t rely solely on friends’ opinions. Take the time to explore what each subject involves.
- Check prerequisites: If you’re considering university, research the course prerequisites—especially for competitive degrees like Engineering, Health, or Education. For example, many Engineering courses require Maths Methods.
- Understand assessment types: Consider the types of assessments involved. Are there external exams? Do internal tasks align with your strengths—like practicals, extended writing, or problem-solving?
- Balance your subjects: Know how many 50% external exams you might face and how that suits your preferred learning and exam style.
Ultimately, subject selection is a personal decision. Make sure it aligns with your abilities, interests, and future goals—not just myths or pressure. The right combination can set you up for success, satisfaction, and exciting pathways beyond school.
If you have any further questions regarding anything what TAFE is offering, please contact me via a direct message.

NISSA Sport reminders
We are at the halfway point of our Winter NISSA season! All teams have certainly got back into the swing of things after the Semester 1 break. We also welcome back our Year 9 students which will give us a boost leading into the back end of the season.
Just a couple of reminders in terms of uniforms and expectations:
- NISSA shirts should be worn (Year 7 and 8 for Wednesday, Year 9 and 10 for Thursday). If you do not have a NISSA shirt, please see Miss Collman.
- School bags are to stay on site. Students participating in Rugby 7s, Basketball and Football are allowed to take a small bag with a change of shoes if they wish. Phones should also be left at the campus.
- When arriving back to school, students are reminded that there are still classes in lessons and that they need to be respectful of others learning time. Ensuring they are quiet when collecting bags from lockers will go a long way to assisting in this space.
If you require any more information, please contact myself via SEQTA or the Middle & Senior Campus via email receptionsc@princeofpeace.qld.edu.au
