Strengthening Learning through Research, Connection, and Care
Research consistently highlights that high-quality professional development for teachers directly correlates with improved educational outcomes for students. At Prince of Peace Lutheran College, we know that when our teachers learn, our students flourish. “When teachers learn together, students grow together” (Educational Research Foundation, 2024).
In 2026, our focus will be on targeted, evidence-based professional development across the whole College, from Kindy through to Year 12. By strengthening consistency and alignment in programs and teaching strategies, we are ensuring a seamless transition through schooling for every learner. Importantly, this work has not occurred in isolation. Student voice has been instrumental in informing this direction, reflecting our belief that students are not just recipients of education, but partners in shaping their learning experiences.
Student Voice and Innovation in Action
Our Student Pitch Program continues to highlight the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of our young people. This year, students pitched ideas for initiatives that could enhance College life and one particularly inspiring idea stood out. A group of students proposed a LEGO Club designed to support wellbeing and socialisation for those who love creating and building. Thanks to the generosity of Jaz Carter, who donated $600 worth of LEGO ($300 per campus), this idea has come to life. The LEGO Club is a powerful example of how student voice can transform community and how creative ideas can grow into meaningful opportunities for belonging and how student agency leads to authentic community enrichment.
Our commitment to academic rigour and deep learning continues to bear fruit and I recently shared this with parents and community in a DM. A further example of our academic excellence was in the 2025 Australian Mathematics Competition, Prince of Peace students achieved 7 Distinctions and 21 Credits, an outstanding result that reflects both student effort and the dedication of our teaching team. These results reinforce the College’s reputation for nurturing excellence through curiosity, persistence, and high expectations.
Remembering Mrs Sherree Cudney
This term, we also pause to honour and celebrate the life and legacy of Mrs Sherree Cudney, our much-loved Junior Campus music teacher. Mrs Cudney brought energy, joy, and passion to every rehearsal and performance, inspiring students and colleagues alike with her radiant smile, humour, and extraordinary talent. Memorial books will be available at both campuses from Wednesday of Week 1 through to Friday of Week 2 (17 October) for students, families, and colleagues to share memories, photos, or prayers. These will be gifted to Mr Cudney as a collective expression of our community’s love and gratitude.
Navigating Financial Realities with Transparency
As shared in our recent correspondence, school funding and fee structures remain a complex national challenge. Our financial partners at Educational Finance Services, led by Mr Peter Hollett, have provided insight into the current landscape:
“Both State and Commonwealth recurrent funding has not kept pace with the rise in the cost of education—particularly in relation to staffing, resourcing, and learning support.”
While wage growth and resource costs continue to rise across all education sectors, our commitment remains steadfast: to deliver exceptional, Christ-centred learning experiences while maintaining transparency and care in every decision.
We sincerely thank our Business Manager, Ms Daphane Gao, for her leadership in financial stewardship, and we invite any families with questions to reach out directly as detailed in our earlier letter.
Looking Ahead: Vision 2026
As we move into 2026, our College continues to stand proudly on its foundations of faith, learning, and community. With a strong focus on professional growth, student agency, and wellbeing, Prince of Peace Lutheran College remains committed to providing Christ-centred, futures-focused education that prepares every learner for the world beyond our gates. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).
Thank you to all of our dedicated staff, families, students, and Council members who make this community thrive. Together, we are shaping a future filled with Courage, Hope, Service, and Grace. Prince of Peace Lutheran College continues to be a place where learning is deeply personal, relationships are central, and every child is known and nurtured.
We extend heartfelt thanks to our staff, students, families, and Council, together we are shaping a future where courage, hope, service, and grace shine through every part of our story.
Yours in Christ,
Dr Susan Carter

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Rehearsals are now underway for our 2026 College Musical – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As per usual, I am stunned by the talent that comes out of our students for the musical. The auditions were brilliant and decisions were difficult but we now have a full cast of leads.
Our chorus will take several forms as the show has a variety of opportunities to feature large groups of lolly-loving students. While at the MSC the chorus work will be a part of the after-school rehearsal program, on the JC some whole class groups will be involved in chorus activities through their normal music lessons. The production team is very excited by what we have seen so far even though it is very early days.
Please note these contacts for the musical so that you know who to speak with if you have any questions:
- Senior Campus: Mr Ben White
- Junior Campus: Mr Ben Reason
Always remember these words of the great Willy Wonka: “A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.”
Baby News — Ally Butler
Last Wednesday 8 October, Ally (our College School Counsellor) and Callum welcomed their new little baby boy, Atlas Bowie Black, who was born at 9.22am weighing 8lbs 1oz / 3.6kg.
They are home and settling in, and both Ally and Atlas are healthy and doing very well.
Please continue to keep them in your prayers during this new and exciting journey.

Discovery Day at Prince of Peace Senior Campus – Science
On Monday 13 October, Prince of Peace Senior Campus had the pleasure of welcoming 70 enthusiastic Year 6 students from our Junior Campus and other schools for an exciting Discovery Day in Science. The event provided a hands-on exploration of scientific concepts through a variety of interactive activities designed to engage and inspire.
Students had the opportunity to participate in several exciting experiments, including flame testing, where they observed the brilliant colours produced by different metal salts, and elephant toothpaste, which demonstrated a dramatic chemical reaction.
They also experimented with bottle rockets, explored participation reactions, and discovered the fascinating world of colour sensation.
Our 2025 Science Ambassadors, Lara and Liam, played a key role in the da y, working alongside Mrs Rajput to lead the activities. They guided the visiting students, explained the scientific principles behind each experiment, and encouraged curiosity and teamwork throughout the sessions. Their enthusiasm and leadership made a noticeable difference, helping the Year 6 students feel confident and engaged as they explored each activity.
The day was an incredible success, with students actively participating, asking insightful questions, and demonstrating genuine excitement for science. It was inspiring to see their curiosity and eagerness to learn, and the Discovery Day provided a fantastic opportunity to foster a love of science while building connections between both our Campuses and other local schools.

Spotlight on PoP Staff!
This fortnight, we invite you to get to know another of our dedicated teaching staff just a little better.
Linda Brady
Curriculum Leader — The Arts | Senior Campus
When did you join us at PoP? At the beginning of 2020.
What is something you’ve loved or learned during your time at Prince of Peace?
I love the families here. Prince of Peace has beautiful grounds and on the Senior Campus it feels like we are on the top of the world. The students who come here and their families really value what we do. They demonstrate good core values, demonstrate an aspirational approach to their futures and an openness to both rigour and creativity.
What is something about Prince of Peace that you think sets it apart from other schools?
The faith journey is important at Prince of Peace and programs like Ubuntu and our commitment to camps enable students to develop both as individuals and in community. Prince of Peace has a very special heart for community.
What is one fun or surprising fact about you that people might not expect?
I used to be a professional singer who toured Australia and beyond, singing in a 6-part vocal group a bit like Pentatonix. I sang for the Queen and the Pope, and with Opera Queensland. I even sang jingles for television ads for things like EXPO 88 and Queensland Rail.
What’s something that always brings you joy, no matter what?
Music.

Term 4 — Full of Energy, Celebration, and Community Spirit
Welcome back to another exciting term at PoP! Term 4 is always a favourite — full of energy, celebration, and community spirit. With the final Gala Day, excursions, incursions, PoP Celebrates, and Christmas festivities ahead, there’s so much to look forward to. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical rehearsals are now in full swing, and it’s not too late to get involved — Mr Reason is the person to contact if your child is keen to join in.
With so many wonderful experiences packed into a short term, it can feel a little fast-paced. That’s why re-establishing a consistent routine is so important — it helps our children stay grounded, confident, and ready to enjoy all that Term 4 has to offer.
The Power of Routine
Amidst the excitement, routine provides a sense of calm and structure. Coming back to school is a great time to reset those daily rhythms that help children thrive. Routines offer predictability, which builds emotional security and supports learning.
As parenting educator Maggie Dent reminds us:
“Simple routines — especially before and after school, and as we head to bed — reduce stress for children as they know what is going to happen. Structure and healthy boundaries help our children manage their world better.”
Let’s support our children by helping them find balance through routine — setting them up for a joyful and successful finish to the year.
Maggie Dent has some easy-to-read great resources on her website if you need to delve into some more detail https://www.maggiedent.com/blog/3-rs-family-happiness-resilience-routine-relaxation/
Student Voice and Junior Campus Leadership
As our Year 6 students near the end of their Leadership Year on the Junior Campus, our Year 5 students have been actively preparing to take on leadership roles in 2026. With enthusiasm and initiative, they’ve been volunteering across the campus, working with their teachers, and exploring what it means to lead with integrity and purpose.
Many have completed the 2026 Leadership Application booklet and are now nominating themselves for key positions, including Junior Campus School Captain, Ministry and Outreach Captain, and House Captains. We’re proud of the way they’ve embraced this opportunity to grow and serve.
Importantly, we recognise that leadership is a journey, not just a badge. Every student who steps forward, contributes, and learns through this process is developing skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom. Whether or not they receive an official title, their courage, character, and commitment are worth celebrating.
We look forward to hearing from our Junior Campus College Captain nominees as they present their speeches on Wednesday, 22nd October — a special moment to honour student voice and the leadership journey ahead.
A Big Thank You to Our Facilities Team
Over the holidays, our wonderful Facilites team have been hard at work refreshing garden areas and completing a range of behind-the-scenes tasks that help keep our campus looking beautiful and running smoothly. A quick walk around will reveal their efforts — and we want them to know: we see you, we value you, and we’re so grateful for all you do!
Colour Run Wrap-Up
What a vibrant and fun way to end Term 3! A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Colour Run — whether by participating, splashing the colour, cheering from the sidelines, or helping raise both fun and funds for our College community.
Prize orders can now be placed, so please refer to the message on SEQTA for details and cut-off dates. Don’t miss out!
Welcome Mrs Cringle
This term, we warmly welcome Mrs Cringle to PoP as the new teacher for 3AN. She joins us as Mrs Norton transitions to the Middle and Senior Campus to take on the role of Learning Enrichment Coordinator.
When I caught up with Mrs Cringle at the end of her first week, she shared how deeply touched she was by the warmth and kindness of our community. It was a beautiful reminder of what makes PoP such a special place — a community that embraces new members with open arms and generous hearts.
Traffic and Parking – Safety First!
We know that pick-up time can be busy — thank you for your patience and care as we work together to keep things flowing smoothly and ensure everyone on campus stays safe.
Here are a few key reminders to help us all:
- Follow the direction of staff on crossing duties — they’re there to keep everyone safe.
- Use the lower car park pick-up zone, if you can, to help reduce congestion on surrounding roads.
- Do not park on roads marked with yellow “No Parking” lines — these areas must remain clear.
- Avoid parking on the ring road in spaces not signed for Monday to Friday use — these are needed for bus access.
- Please don’t walk between buses — it’s unsafe and makes it hard for drivers to see pedestrians.
- Stick to the speed limit — we’re trialling additional movable speed bumps to support this.
- Look carefully when exiting the campus and always give way to other vehicles.
Thanks for helping us keep our community safe, respectful, and running smoothly!
Looking Ahead
There’s so much to celebrate and enjoy this term — and we’re so glad to be on the journey with you. Let’s keep the energy high, the routines steady, and the joy flowing as we head toward the end of another wonderful year.
Term 4 — blink and you’ll miss it, so let’s make every moment count!

Reflections and Gratitude
During the recent term break we mourned the loss of a former colleague and much-loved friend and teacher, Mrs Sherree Cudney. We are thankful for Mrs Cudney and for the joy and fun she brought to our Prince of Peace community, and I know that she is deeply missed. We have placed a memorial book at the MSC Admin office for any students, staff or families who would like to write a message to Mrs Cudney. We will ensure this is passed onto her loved ones.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Prince of Peace community who has supported our family as we mourn the loss of our eldest daughter Caitlin, who passed away on 22 of September. We take comfort in knowing that she is at peace with our Lord and Saviour.
It is at times like this that you are reminded of the wonderful community that we have at PoP, people who are caring and selfless, who go above and beyond to ensure that no one walks through grief alone. Your prayers, kind words and quiet acts of compassion have wrapped us in love and reminded us of God’s presence through each of you.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your support has been a light in our darkest days, and we are deeply grateful.
Blessings,
Coreta Lennon

Prince of Peace Community Carols
Term 4 is all about looking forward. Just as we will begin the church season of Lent which looks forward to the birth of Jesus, our Year 12 students look forward to the final tasks of their Schooling experience, the External Examinations, and our Ensemble Program looks forward at life without the leadership of the Year 12 students, refining and refocusing ensembles to align with the skills and interests of the changed cohort. This takes time and it is wonderful to have Term 4 without the pressure of performance to explore that.
Of course, many of our students will perform at the Prince of Peace Community Carols on Friday 5 December and we look forward to sharing that with you all. Sing and Dance will be there as will our extension ensemble and Vocalese with all of our favourite carols. We will get a chance to sing along and rejoice in one of the very few experiences of oral tradition handover that our society still maintains. The shared experience of singing carols is something which we almost certainly all learned by ear as small children from our families and communities. The act of sharing this with the next generation creates powerfully deep memories of connection, security and hope for our children which will affirm them as they age.
Thank you all for your support of our Arts Gala Celebration. We had some truly wonderful performances from our Music, Dance and Drama students, and amazing senior Visual Art-works. The P&F blessed the event with snacks and the money raised on the evening from the admission, raffle and P&F all goes directly back into supporting music and Arts initiatives within the College.
Stay tuned for more…
