PoP: Proudly Shaping a Future-Ready Generation

Queensland education is changing fast and at Prince of Peace Lutheran College, we’re leading that change with creativity, compassion, and courage.

Our College continues to invest wisely in what matters most – the future of our students. This year we’ve launched major innovations, from our new TODDLE Learning Management System coming in 2026 designed with AI to personalise learning and streamline communication, to exciting new learning spaces, ready for 2026 that will inspire collaboration and connection.

Across our campuses, students are taking action that reflects our Change Equipped values from what they chose to make a pitch for, to how they conduct themselves as quality human beings unique, creative and intuitive.

On the Junior Campus, Mrs Stedman’s class led a heart-warming Blankets for Brisbane project, combining learning, faith, and service to support people in need. As one student reflected, “We might just be kids, but we can still do something to help. Everyone deserves to feel warm and cared for.” That’s the kind of warmth no blanket can contain.

Meanwhile, our Native Garden Project celebrates two years of growth a living classroom where students connect deeply with nature and sustainability.

From 2024 to now…. amazing growth.

And innovation isn’t stopping there….. our new LEGO Club on the Middle and Senior Campus is building creativity one brick at a time, empowering students to imagine, design, and problem-solve together.

At Prince of Peace, we’re proud to be a contemporary, forward-thinking College  where learning is grounded in values, guided by research, and powered by imagination.

Together, we’re shaping learners who are ready to make a difference, today and for the world they’ll help build tomorrow.

Celebrating Our Year 12 Success

We are delighted to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our Year 12 students, whose results this year reflect not only academic excellence but also the character, perseverance, and faith that define our College community. Their dedication and commitment to learning, supported by the care and expertise of their teachers, have produced outcomes of which we can all be proud. Beyond grades and results, these students have grown as compassionate, capable young people ready to make their mark on the world.

As they step into the next chapter of their journey, we hold them in our prayers:

Loving God, we thank You for the journey of our Year 12 students — for their achievements, friendships, and growth in wisdom and grace. As they move into new pathways of study and life, may Your presence guide them. Grant them courage for new challenges, peace in uncertainty, and joy in all they pursue. May Your light continue to shine through them, bringing hope and goodness to the world. Amen.

Yours in Christ,

Dr Susan Carter

Celebrating Our Teachers – Thanks to Our Wonderful P&F

Our amazing Parents and Friends (P&F) Association have once again shown their appreciation in the most thoughtful way — by treating our Senior Campus staff to a beautiful lunch in celebration of World Teachers’ Day (officially this Friday).

It was a truly lovely gesture and a wonderful way to say thank you for the incredible dedication, care, and commitment our teachers and staff show every single day in supporting our students.

The Junior Campus team is eagerly looking forward to their turn on Thursday, and we’re so grateful to our P&F for their generosity, warmth, and the way they continue to nurture our College community with such big hearts.

Year 3 and 4 students have had a fantastic time learning basketball skills with Brent Wood from the Wizards Basketball Club. Brent recently joined students in our PE lessons to run a fun and energetic session, helping students build their skills, teamwork, and love for the game. We’re excited to support this great local initiative and encourage children to stay active and get involved in community sport.

Excursions That Spark Curiosity and Deepen Learning

At Prince of Peace Lutheran College, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom walls. Excursions provide rich, hands-on experiences that ignite curiosity, deepen understanding, and connect classroom learning to the real world. Recent excursions for our Year 2 and Prep students beautifully illustrate the power of experiential learning.

Prep – Rolling into Real-World Learning!

This semester, our Prep students were hands-on as they explored how different materials affect the way objects move — rolling, spinning, and sliding their way through a fun and engaging Science unit.

To deepen their learning, students visited Bunnings Brendale for an exciting excursion. They were split into two groups: one group embarked on a scavenger hunt to discover objects that roll, spin, and slide, observing the materials they were made from. Meanwhile, the other group teamed up with a Bunnings expert to design and build their very own moving toy in a creative craft session.

It was a fun-filled, practical experience that brought science to life and connected classroom learning with the world around them.

Excursions like these are more than just fun days out — they are carefully designed to reinforce curriculum goals, build social skills, and inspire lifelong learning. By engaging with the world around them, students develop critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the subjects they study.

We are proud to offer these enriching experiences and look forward to many more opportunities where learning comes alive beyond the classroom.

Year 2 – Learning Through Discovery

Our Year 2 students have been exploring how materials can be manipulated for different purposes in Science. This week, they brought their learning to life during an engaging excursion to the Queensland Museum’s Sparklab centre. Through interactive exhibits and playful experimentation, students investigated scientific concepts in action — testing, observing, and discovering with enthusiasm.

Following their museum visit, students enjoyed lunch at South Bank and took time to sketch various structures, observing how materials are used in real-life construction. This blend of science, art, and environmental observation made for a day filled with wonder, creativity, and meaningful learning.

Class Placements 2026

As we begin planning for class groupings for 2026, we are committed to creating balanced, happy, and productive learning environments where every child feels a sense of belonging and is supported to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.

To help us in this thoughtful process, we invite families to share insights that will assist in shaping class placements. Specifically, we welcome information about:

  • Positive friendship connections that help your child feel secure and confident at school.
  • Social or learning factors you believe we should consider when placing your child.

This feedback can be submitted via the Class Placement link on SEQTA, or via this Class Placement Form, which will remain open until midday on Wednesday 5 November.

While we deeply value your insights, we kindly ask that families refrain from requesting specific teachers. Class placements are a collaborative process involving staff who know your child well and consider a wide range of factors — including class size, gender balance, learning styles, wellbeing, and peer dynamics — to build supportive and balanced learning communities.

Our vision is to nurture each child’s God-given potential within a Christ-centred environment. Part of this journey includes helping students develop resilience, adaptability, and confidence — skills that grow through experiences with different teachers and classmates.

Upcoming Events

Day for Daniel – Friday 31 October
Wear something red and bring a gold coin donation for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.  A crucial day to reinforce reminders of child safety.  Refer to SEQTA notices for additional information.

Excellence of Effort Awards – Monday 10 November

At Prince of Peace, we know that effort is the engine of learning. It’s not just about what students know — it’s about how they grow. The Excellence of Effort Awards honour students who consistently demonstrate perseverance, commitment, and a growth mindset in their learning journey.

Families will have been notified via SEQTA if their child is receiving one of these awards. These students have shown that with determination and a positive attitude, challenges become opportunities and mistakes become stepping stones.

Encouraging Effort and a Growth Mindset – 3 Top Tips for Families:

  • Praise the process, not just the outcome – Celebrate hard work, persistence, and strategies used, rather than just results.
  • Model resilience – Share stories of your own challenges and how you overcame them to show that effort leads to progress.
  • Use “yet” language – When your child says “I can’t do this,” encourage them to say “I can’t do this yet,” reinforcing the idea that learning is a journey.

Let’s continue to nurture learners who are courageous, curious, and committed to growing — one effort-filled step at a time.

A Shout-Out to Our Incredible Staff

This Friday marks World Teachers’ Day, and we couldn’t let the week pass without taking a moment to celebrate the incredible educators and staff who make Prince of Peace Lutheran College such a special place to learn and grow.

In today’s research-informed world, the role of a teacher has evolved into so much more than delivering lessons. Our educators are designers of learning, facilitators of inquiry, and mentors who guide students through complex thinking, emotional growth, and spiritual development. They bring evidence-based practice into every corner of the classroom, helping students flourish in ways that are meaningful and lasting.

But it’s not just our teachers who make the magic happen. From support staff to admin teams, groundskeepers to learning assistants — every person contributes to the heartbeat of our College. Your care, commitment, and quiet acts of service do not go unnoticed.

So, as we prepare to celebrate on Friday, we invite our community to join us in a simple but powerful gesture: a shout-out, a thank you, a kind word. It means the world.

To all our staff — thank you for your courage, your grace, your hope, and your service. You are deeply appreciated.

Be Blessed

Year 12 External Exams

This week marks a significant milestone for our Year 12 students as they commence their QCAA external exams. After years of dedication, growth, and learning, they now step into this final phase of their secondary education journey.

We are incredibly proud of the resilience and commitment our students have shown throughout the year. As they sit their exams, we encourage them to approach each day with confidence, knowing they are well-prepared and supported by their teachers, families, and peers.

Let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this important time. May they find peace in moments of stress and strength in moments of challenge.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”  Proverbs 16:3

We wish all our Year 12s the very best in their exams and beyond.

Year 8 Camp

Our Year 8 students enjoyed a wonderful time away at Luther Heights Camp, where they built confidence, connection and teamwork, laying the groundwork for their future as Middle School leaders. For the first time, students participated in a professional surfing school, an exciting challenge that helped many step out of their comfort zones.

A huge thank-you to Mr V, Mrs Rachow, Ms Collman and Mr Hardy for their outstanding organisation, care and leadership throughout the camp.

31 October — Honouring Reformation Day: A Time to Reflect and Remember

This week, we pause to honour Reformation Day, a pivotal moment in Christian history that reminds us of the courage, conviction, and faithfulness of Martin Luther and the reformers who sought to return the Church to the heart of the Gospel.

For our Senior Campus, Reformation Day is more than a historical event, it is a call to continually seek truth, grace, and renewal in our lives and learning. It reminds us of the importance of Scripture, the power of faith, and the freedom we have in Christ.

As a Lutheran school, we celebrate the legacy of the Reformation by encouraging our students to think deeply, live faithfully, and serve others with compassion and integrity.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8 (NIV)

World Teacher’s Day

This week, we celebrate World Teacher’s Day, a special opportunity to honour the incredible dedication, care, and wisdom of our teachers. At our Senior Campus, we are blessed with educators who not only teach but inspire, guide, and nurture the hearts and minds of our students every day.

Their work is a reflection of servant leadership, grounded in love, patience, and a deep commitment to shaping lives for the better. We thank each teacher for the unique gifts they bring to our community and the lasting impact they make.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Colossians 3:23

Happy World Teacher’s Day to all our wonderful staff!

Celebrating Success!

We are thrilled to share the accomplishments of and congratulate the following students for their achievements:

  • Erin Scott has achieved a perfect score across all internal assessments for both Design and Visual Art which is an extraordinary effort!
  • 99% of our Year 10 Visual Art Cohort received a mark of A or B for their internal assessments.
  • Jacob Howard-Taylor has a perfect score in both Music and Music Extension

These are just some of the outstanding results from our students. We thank our wonderful, dedicated staff and our resilient, futures-focused students who continue to amaze us.

ArcGIS — more than a mapping tool

This term, our Year 7 and 8 students have taken their geography reports to the next level by creating interactive StoryMaps with ArcGIS. Instead of a traditional written assignment, students have blended maps, graphics, and reporting text to produce polished, publishable work that looks incredible.

If you know a PoP student in Year 7 or 8, ask to see their project, you’ll be impressed by how professional it is.

Please enjoy visiting a few examples from our talented students:

ArcGIS is far more than a mapping tool. It’s a powerful, cloud-based platform that:

  • scales effortlessly to keep data, maps, and apps responsive
  • protects sensitive information with industry-leading security
  • allows students to share and collaborate in real time
  • keeps students working with the most up-to-date information
  • adapts from simple map creation to advanced data modelling

By introducing ArcGIS across the Middle School, we’re giving students hands-on experience with technology used by governments, researchers, and academics.

Careers @ PoP

Helping Students Shape Their Future

At Prince of Peace, we’re proud to support our students as they explore the many pathways available to them beyond school. For some, this means preparing for university, while others are taking exciting steps toward starting a School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SAT) during their senior years.

We currently have several students eager to begin their journey in the workforce while still at school and would love to connect with families or community members who may be able to assist.

We’re particularly seeking opportunities in the following areas:

  • Electrical (2 students seeking placements)
  • Individual Support (Aged Care/Disability)
  • Childcare (2 students seeking placements)
  • Veterinary Nursing

If you own, manage, or are connected with a business that could offer a school-based apprenticeship, traineeship, or even a short work experience placement, we would be very grateful to hear from you.

By opening your workplace to a student, you’re helping them take their first meaningful step toward a future career and building valuable connections within our PoP community.

For more information or to express interest, please contact me via direct message or call me at the Senior Campus on 38725600.
