Principal’s Message

Free to Flourish — 2026: Growth, Connection, Adventure

As we welcome our staff, students and families to the 2026 school year, we are guided by our theme One Tree, Many Branches, a powerful image of unity and growth. Like branches reaching outward and upward, we are challenged to grow, bloom and stand tall together as a community. At the heart of our journey is the Lutheran Free to Flourish story, grounded in Christian values. We are invited to approach learning and life with confidence, connection, courage, curiosity, and compassion, embracing both wonder and challenge.

Chapel Beginnings

Each campus began the year with a Chapel service, where we gathered to give thanks for God’s grace, affirm the calling of our staff, and offer blessings for both new and continuing members of our community. In these Christ-centred moments, we are reminded that our work and relationships are expressions of God’s love, fostering a sense of belonging, mutual encouragement, and shared purpose in the vocation to serve and nurture one another.

Acknowledging Change Agents – Learning Management System

We celebrate our community’s resilience during the transition to Toddle and increased use of Parent Orbit. A massive shout out to our patient an innovative IT team, Douglas Giles and Marcus Saastamoinen who have bravely clambered through difficult challenges in a short time frame to facilitate the transition under the oversight of our ingenious Business Manager Daphne Gao.  Thank you to our Head of Campus-Junior, Mrs Anne-Marie Schmidt for her outstanding change management, Mr Simon Hughes for his shared expertise, and Mrs Natasha Cochrane for navigating Time Tabler with dedication, and in addition, Jenell Molkentin and Sue Noon for amazing data entry. Gratitude also to Change Champions Ashoo Rajput, Meghan Deam, Natalie Skinner, Naomi Walsh, and others.

Together, we embody courage to grow, central to a relational, collaborative, and empowering learning community. If needed, please reach out to access IT help.

Head of Campus Installation – Sunday 8 February

Mrs Coreta Lennon will be officially installed as Head of Campus on Sunday, 8 February, at 9:00am at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on our Junior Campus. The service will include prayer and affirmation for all new and returning staff, continuing our tradition of blessing those who serve our community. Our new and returning staff will all be affirmed with blessings in this service. Morning tea will follow. Our thanks to Pastor Nick and Chappy Reilly for guiding and nurturing our growth.

Welcoming New Staff

We are delighted to welcome Ian Hayne Deputy K–12 Pedagogical Innovation, whose strengths in IT management, AI, curriculum, coaching and mentoring will enrich learning across the College. We are also pleased to welcome Merel Verbeke (Legal Studies), Kyle Furness (Psychology), Christo Salachan (HPE), Luke Stark (Specialist Mathematics and Engineering), Charlotte Wittmann (Science Laboratory Technician), Beatrice John (Learning Enrichment Educator), Jasmine Nicholson (Prep Teacher), Regina Talar (HR officer), Renee Halcrow (Administration – MSC), and Vivian Peterkin (Learning Enrichment Officer – MSC). Each brings unique gifts and talents, and we give thanks for their willingness to serve and grow with us as we continue our shared journey of learning, faith and community. Mrs Nardine Price Deputy Head of Campus (Middle & Senior), bringing expertise in Toddle, timetabling and QCE will arrive at the beginning of week 3.

With faith as our foundation and one another as companions on this journey, we are truly Free to Flourish. We look forward to a year of growing together, celebrating who we are, discovering who we are becoming, and embracing the joy, challenge, and adventure that lies ahead. We pray that 2026 be filled with growth, purpose, connection, and bold discovery:

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

Blessings and gratitude to you all.

Science Competition National Finalists

We are thrilled to announce that Isabella and Marley, both in Year 11, have achieved the National Finalist—Commendation Award at the AUSSEF Australian Science and Engineering Fair, an international event. Competing in the Biomedical Engineering category, they earned national finalist recognition with a commendation award.

Their project, titled: “Design and Evaluation of Protective Models for Mitigating Mobile Device Radiofrequency Emissions in Relation to Central Nervous System Tumour Risk: RF Shield Phone Case and RF Shield Capsule,” impressed judges with its scientific rigour, innovation, and real-world application.

The 2025 AUSSEF judges highlighted the exceptionally high standard of competition, with 127 projects submitted, the highest number to date. Entries were evaluated by 120 judges, including leading research scientists, experienced educators, STEM industry leaders, sponsors, and former ISEF alumni. In the Biomedical Engineering category, each project was rigorously assessed by at least three judges across five equally weighted criteria: significance, methodological approach, creativity and innovation, scientific understanding, and presentation and communication.

Isabella Everitt and Marley Buchanan demonstrated exceptional innovation, a strong research methodology, and a high level of scientific understanding throughout their project. We are incredibly proud of their achievement, which reflects how science is actively promoted, nurtured, and celebrated at Prince of Peace.

Canteen Online Orders — Junior and Senior Campus

During Term 1, 2016, the College will be trialing online canteen orders for both the Junior and Senior Campuses.

Orders can be made from within the Flexischools app, where on the home page you will find an ‘Order Food’ button.

The service will operate on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Orders must be placed by 8:30am on the day.

All food will be prepared by Metro Canteen at the Senior Campus. Orders for Junior Campus students will be delivered daily shortly before the lunch break.

When placing an order, please ensure you select the correct menu — Prep–Year 6 Lunch or Year 7–12 Lunch to avoid the order being sent to the wrong campus.

Please note that the Junior Campus trial offers a smaller range of items to ensure food choices are age-appropriate and suitable for delivery.

On the Senior Campus the Canteen will be open as normal for in-person food purchases each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Thank you to our parent volunteers who graciously agreed to help with this trial food delivery service during Term 1,  we extend our heartfelt appreciation to you.

If the number of Junior Campus orders remains sustainable throughout this term, Metro Canteen will continue the Junior Campus delivery service into the future.

Should you wish to provide any feedback about the menu, please complete this Canteen Feedback Form.

Junior Campus News

Hello 2026, It’s great to be at PoP!

Welcome! It has been so lovely to reconnect with our community as we begin 2026. Already, we have shared many meaningful moments together—from the excitement of first days, Tea and Tissues with our wonderful Prep families, and recent Junior Campus Information Nights, to casual pop‑ins to chat with teachers and the rich conversations that happen as we gather at pick‑up and drop‑off each day.

And what about our first chapel together where our focus was on “Rejoice!” Where Chappy Reilly reminded us that our joy isn’t found in circumstances, but in Jesus—constant, secure, and unshakeable. A wonderful start to the year together.

It has been so good to see people connecting face to face as well as online during the recent Information Nights., like many branches on one tree, we continue to grow, connect, and flourish together. If you were unable to attend or stream the recent Parent Information Night, you can download the Powerpoint slides below:

We are excited for all that lies ahead and cannot wait to see you at one of our next community events, the PoP Picnic on February 20 on the Junior Campus.

Growing our Young Leaders – Mini Momentum Camp

We are excited to share that our Year 6 Leaders attended a Mini Momentum Camp just before the start of the school year, made possible through a generous sponsorship. Lutheran Education Queensland offers outstanding leadership opportunities and programs, and this experience aligns beautifully with the work of our dedicated Year 5 and Year 6 teaching team, who support students in putting leadership skills into meaningful, practical application on the Junior Campus and beyond.

The Installation of our Year 6 Leaders will take place on Friday 20 February at 8:35 am in the Junior Campus Shed and we look forward to celebrating this important milestone together. We cannot wait to see what this wonderful group of young people achieves throughout 2026—and well beyond.

Parent Orbit and Toddle

In 2026, the College introduced Parent Orbit alongside Toddle as our new core systems. If you have not yet downloaded the apps or connected your account, information and step‑by‑step guidance can be found on the College website by clicking the Orbit logo on the top menu bar. If you experience any difficulties, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Campus Reception, who will be happy to arrange support and assist you in getting connected.

As with any new system, we appreciate your patience and willingness to learn as we grow together in 2026. Change does not always go perfectly to plan, and there may be moments along the way where things feel unfamiliar or take a little extra time. Your courage, flexibility, and understanding as we navigate these new systems together is greatly valued, and we thank you for walking alongside us with grace as we continue learning and improving.

iPad Information Session: Online 10 February 5pm – 6pm

Parents are warmly invited to attend our upcoming Online iPad Information Session, with a particular focus on families of students in Year 3, as students begin to use their devices more independently. All parents across the Junior Campus are very welcome to attend. This session will provide practical guidance and support to help families feel confident navigating iPad use at home and school.  A link will be sent via Toddle and email to families closer to the date.

  • iPad expectations and routines at school – how devices are used to support learning in the Junior Campus.
  • Digital safety and wellbeing – managing screen time, online safety, and responsible digital citizenship.
  • Supporting your child at home – practical tips for settings, organisation, and encouraging positive learning habits.

Shrove Tuesday – 17 February

Once again, our wonderful P&F are blessing our community with Shrove Tuesday – Pancakes for Purpose. Along with enjoying some delicious pancakes, families will be supporting an important cause, with funds raised going towards the work of Australian Lutheran World Service. Our community is always so generous, and we are grateful for the way we come together to support others near and far.

Connected in Community, Courageous in Growth

As we move through these early weeks of the year, it is natural for children—and families—to experience a mix of excitement and settling‑in nerves. Please be assured that our teachers and staff are attentive, caring, and ready to support each child as they adjust to new routines, relationships, and expectations. There may be a few bumps along the way, and that is all part of the learning journey. We are always here to help, and we encourage families to reach out—whether by sending a message through Toddle or arranging a time to meet with class teachers—so that we can continue working together to ensure a settled, joyful, and successful year for every child.

Be Blessed

Head of Campus – Junior

Living with an Adventurous Spirit in 2026

A very warm welcome back to all our new and returning families. It has been a wonderful start to the year, and I am energised by the opportunity to serve as your Deputy Head of the Junior Campus with a particular focus on the wellbeing of our students and staff.

Free to Flourish: Being Adventurous Learners

This year, we continue to roll out our Lutheran foundational framework, Free to Flourish. This Term, we are placing a special emphasis on the disposition of being Adventurous. On our Junior Campus, being adventurous means having a “give it a go” attitude. It’s about the willingness to step into the unknown—whether that’s a challenging new math concept, trying a different style of writing, or making a new friend on the playground. We want our students to feel that our classrooms are safe “base camps” from which they can boldly explore, take risks, and discover their God-given potential.

Building Resilience Through Exploration

To support this adventurous spirit, we are continuing our journey with The Resilience Project. By focusing on Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness (GEM), we give our students the emotional “backpack” they need for their adventures. When a student feels mindful and grounded, they have the confidence to be adventurous in their learning, knowing that even if they take a wrong turn, they have the resilience to find their way back and try again.

A Flourishing Staff and Student Body

At Prince of Peace we believe that our Christian beliefs and values nurture wellbeing and are a catalyst for academic excellence and growth. When our staff feel supported and our students feel a deep sense of belonging, they are truly “free to flourish.” I am committed to ensuring that our Junior Campus remains a place where every individual is known, valued, and encouraged to reach their God-given potential.

How you can Encourage Adventure at Home

As we focus on being Adventurous this term, we invite you to encourage this at home. Being adventurous isn’t about being “fearless”, it’s about being curious enough to try anyway.

Ask a “Discovery” Question: Instead of asking “How was school?”, try asking, “What was something new or adventurous you tried today?”

Celebrate the “Go”: Praise the effort of trying something new, regardless of the outcome. Whether it was tasting a new food or attempting a difficult task, celebrate the spirit of adventure!

I look forward to walking this path with you and our community throughout 2026.

One Tree, Many Branches – Living in Community

How wonderful it was to welcome all our staff, students and families back from their holiday break. As we begin this next chapter together, our theme ‘One Tree, Many Branches – Living in Community’ beautifully reflects who we are as a College family. Just like a strong tree with many branches, our community is made up of unique individuals, students, families, and staff, each bringing their own strengths, stories, and gifts. When we come together, we create a supportive, nurturing environment where every child can grow, flourish, and feel deeply connected.

This year, we look forward to celebrating the many ways our students learn from one another, support each other, and contribute to the rich tapestry of our shared life.

Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to build a community firmly planted in compassion, respect, and belonging.

We are grateful to journey alongside you, many branches, as one strong and thriving community.

Welcome to New Staff for 2026

During Worship this week, we welcomed new staff to our community through a Staff Installation Service. During this time together as a community, we gave thanks to God for bringing all staff to us, who have been called to serve in developing the God-given potential of each student in our community. We also gave thanks to existing staff who also have responded to the call from God in continuing their service with the College.

New staff for 2026

  • Nardine Price – Deputy Head of Campus – Middle and Senior
  • Ian Hayne – Deputy K-12 Pedagogical Innovation
  • Kyle Furness – Teacher (HPE/Science incl Psychology)
  • Luke Stark – Teacher (Maths and Languages incl Spanish)
  • Christo Salachan – Teacher (HPE, Religion, Ubuntu, Maths)
  • Merel Blue – Teacher (Business, Legal Studies, Science)
  • Charlotte Wittman – (Science Lab Technician)

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our P&F

We extend our sincere thanks to our P&F for generously providing new seating for our students on campus. These seats have already become a wonderful addition to our outdoor spaces, being well‑used during break times and supporting outdoor learning experiences across the week.

We are also eagerly awaiting the arrival of our new Sensory Egg Chair for our Wellbeing Hub, another thoughtful contribution that will help create a calming, supportive environment for our students.

Your ongoing commitment to enhancing our College community is truly appreciated, and we are grateful for the positive impact your support continues to make in the daily lives of our learners.

Communication

Toddle provides a simple and efficient way for families to communicate directly with their child’s teachers. To send a message, open the app and select the Messaging option. From there, tap the + icon to start a new conversation, choose the teacher you wish to contact, and a chat window will open, allowing you to send your message instantly.

This process helps streamline communication and ensures your message goes straight to the right person. Just a reminder that all communication to staff needs to be done through Toddle.

Uniform Reminders

White Formal Shirt

On the Middle & Senior Campus there are two options when it comes to formal shirts. The blue formal shirt being worn by Year 7-12 students will now slowly phase out and be replaced by the new white formal shirt over the next three years. Current families will have the option of wearing the blue shirts until December 2028.

This means:

  • All Senior Campus students can wear either blue or white shirts until the end of 2028.
  • The white shirts will not be compulsory until January 2029.

By allowing this generous phase-in timeframe, current students can keep wearing their current blue shirts for as long as possible, including handing them down to siblings.

Transition process: As we run out of a size in the blue formal shirts, the white shirts will take their place on the shelves in both the Campus Uniform Store (located on the Junior Campus) and The School Locker’s North Lakes Super Store.

In summary:

  1. Current families do not need to purchase the white formal shirt until 2029 as Senior Campus students will be able to wear either the blue shirt or the white shirt until December 2028.
  2. From 2029, all students will be required to wear the white formal uniform with the grey pants or grey shorts. Blue shirts will no longer be permitted.
  3. The white shirt has been tailored so it does not need to be tucked into the shorts/pants unless attending a formal occasion or asked by staff.
  4. Stock will start appearing in both stores as the blue stock sells out.

College Hat

Please note: The Senior Campus Formal Hat cannot be worn with the current sports uniform. Students can wear their old Navy Broad Brim hat with the sports uniform, the sports cap or the sports bucket hat.

Shoes

Black leather lace up school shoes only, jogger-style leather shoes are not permitted.

More information regarding our uniform guidelines can be found in our Uniform Guidelines Handbook.

Carpark Changes

We have made some slight adjustments to the drive‑through process on our Middle and Senior Campus to help maintain a steady flow of traffic and, most importantly, to ensure the safety of our students. All students have been asked to wait at the top of the hill, where they will be directed to move to their car once the line has come to a complete stop. Staff will be on duty to support students as they enter vehicles safely. Students have also been reminded to cross the carpark only at the designated crossing or with a staff member wearing a high‑visibility vest. We kindly ask families to leave enough space for our bus to enter the campus at all times.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Your support makes a significant difference in keeping our community safe and running smoothly.

Embracing Opportunities at PoP

As we continue to focus on Individualised Pathways for our students, it has been wonderful to see this vision come to life through the initiative and commitment of two of our young women. Poppy (left) and Brooke (right) have embraced the opportunity to begin creating their own PoP Pathways with enthusiasm and maturity.

During the recent holidays, both students commenced School-Based Traineeships at Prince of Peace Kindy, located on our Junior Campus. As part of the process, they participated in formal interviews with Kindy Director, Mrs Emma Mothersole. While the original plan was for the two to compete for a single position, Mrs Mothersole quickly recognised the strengths and potential in both girls and made the wonderful decision to employ them both.

Undertaking a School-Based Traineeship is a significant commitment. By the end of Year 12, Poppy and Brooke will each be working one day per week while completing a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care—alongside their regular Year 11 and 12 studies.

It is always inspiring to witness how the aspirations of young people can develop into clear pathways and promising futures. We look forward to following Poppy and Brooke’s progress throughout their Senior years and celebrating their achievements at the conclusion of their schooling journey.

Please keep these students in your prayers as they take on this exciting new chapter.

If you have any questions about School-Based Apprenticeships or Traineeships, please feel free to contact me via email.

Changing Subjects in Years 9 – 12

As we settle into the 2026 school year, some students may wish to request a change of subject. We acknowledge that there can be a variety of reasons for such requests.

To facilitate this process, students are asked to collect a Subject Change Form from Student Reception. Once completed, the form should be returned to Student Reception for consideration. Mr Stevens and I will review all submitted forms and, where necessary, meet with individual students to discuss their request.

To ensure a fair and consistent process, requests for subject changes will only be considered once the appropriate form has been completed and submitted. Students are expected to remain in their current classes until any approved changes are reflected on their timetable. This is important for attendance and accountability purposes.

The deadline for submission of Subject Change Forms is Friday, 6 February.

Middle & Senior Campus Sport

Welcome to Senior College Sport in 2026!

My name is Gabby Collman and I am the Sports Coordinator on the Senior Campus.

I hope you all had a wonderful break and are excited for the upcoming year. I just wanted to relay a few reminders about district and NISSA Sport so that you are able to keep up with all our sporting news this year.

District Sport information

As mentioned in my communication at the end of last year, Met North Sport has undergone a district restructure which is being implemented this year. For us, this marks a change in districts, with the Senior College now coming under the North District banner. This aligns us with the Junior College and should make for a more structured and streamlined approach. Nomination processes stay fairly similar to last year – trials will be advertised and students come and see me to nominate. District trials this year will be at centralised locations – for us this will be the South Pine Sports Complex. If you have any questions around this process, please feel free to get in touch with me.

All district and regional sporting information for the Senior Campus can be found on TASS in the notices section and on Toddle in the announcement section. This is the easiest and most efficient way to get information out to students quickly. It is really important that the notices are checked regularly as new opportunities and information are consistently uploaded and updated. I will also send out information via emails and through this POPCORN newsletter. However, TASS notices and Toddle Announcements are where the most up to date information can be found.

NISSA Years 7-10

In 2026, we enter our fourth season of the NISSA (Northern Independent Schools Sporting Association) competition. This is an exciting chapter for the association, as we welcome Northside Christian College—marking the first expansion of the competition. With a long-term vision of growing to eight schools, this expansion will provide our students with the opportunity to further develop and connect with others in our local area.

Students have already chosen their sports for the summer season, with final team decisions to be made in the coming weeks during our sport time. Venues for both seasons are below.

Summer Season Sport Locations

Netball: Pine Rivers Netball Association, Lawnton

Student Success!

Monte Morse recently returned from a chilly Tasmania after competing at the 2026 Oceania & Australian ILCA Open and Youth National Championships, hosted by the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania.

The regatta had 191 competitors from across the country, including Australian Olympians, making the competition incredibly strong.

We are extremely proud to share that Monte achieved 9th out of 77 boats in the ILCA 4 class, an outstanding result—especially considering he has only transitioned into this new class of boat six months ago.

Hard work, resilience and determination paying off. Well done, Monte!

Middle & Senior Campus News from The Arts

Welcome to all of our ARTS enthusiasts

2026 promises to be a great year for the ARTS at PoP with our Whole College Musical – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory already fully underway. Keep a keen eye out for ways you can be involved. There are lots of activities happening around the College and on weekends to raise funds to support the huge input of our families, staff and students as they engage in this fantastic venture. Scan the newsletter for articles and advertisements with details on this.

Our first music concert of the year will be held later in Term 1 – Soloists on Show Soiree which is our only concert specifically dedicated to soloists. If you have a dance program you want to share, or you have been really practicing your Ukulele Sing and Play, or maybe you are doing third grade piano or have a new song on the guitar… this concert is for you! Watch for the date coming up in Week 8!

Speaking of playing instruments, our private tuition and ensembles have started back this week. Tutors are corresponding with parents via Outlook Email. We are working to streamline this system but I didn’t want to hold up the start of tuition or ensembles while we sorted out the admin. Please be patient with us all as we work to improve communication, and know that there has been no compromise to the quality of the tuition itself. All of our amazing tutors are here again bringing students out of class for one to one lessons on their instruments.

If you would like to join this program we have the following tutors:

You can email the tutors to get more details as to costs and specific time options for each tutor and ensemble, or to set up a trial lesson. Please identify yourself and your student clearly with full names and year levels.

Alternatively, please download and complete the relevant form below then return to me at LBrady@princeofpeace.qld.edu.au

We are running a new course in 2026 called Arts in Practice which is a great option for students with interests in the Arts to get hands on practice in areas not previously addressed buy any of our standard courses. Media, photography, sound and lighting, publicity, film and television, stage management and back-stage craft are some of the options students can engage with under the expert guidance of Mrs Lisa Rachow. This is a 9/10 course in 2026 with a view to it becoming a senior program with possible TAFE qualifications in the coming years. This is an exciting space and we are thrilled to have a full class of eager young people engaged in their first project already.

Visual Art had some outstanding results in 2025 due in a large part to the exceptional leadership of Mrs Kaylene Simpson. This year the program has grown so extensively that a new teacher is coming on board to support the program. Ms Lora Lama will be teaching in Year 8 and 11 and we look forward to enjoying the contributions of all of our Arts team at the ARTS Gala in Term 3.

Stay tuned for more…

Church News & Notices

Welcome to 2026!

We hope you know that the church is here as a resource for all of our College families, even if you come from a different faith tradition (or none at all). You can always find information about church events, groups you can join, and much more on our website or in the Church Center app.

Staff Installation / Affirmation Service

This Sunday (8 February) at 9am will be the installation service for Mrs Coreta Lennon as Head of Campus (Middle Senior Campus), as well as a blessing for all College staff. All families are welcome to join us in support of our wonderful teachers.

First Communion

Prince of Peace invites children aged 10 and over to embark on a meaningful faith journey through a six-week First Communion preparation course. This family-centred program combines engaging home-based lessons with two interactive group sessions, allowing parents to play an active role in their child’s spiritual growth. The experience culminates in a special celebration during the Palm Sunday worship service, where participants receive the sacrament for the first time alongside their families and church community.

Confirmation

GROW is a fresh, family-oriented approach to confirmation designed specifically for students in Years 7-12. Meeting fortnightly on Sundays, the program integrates teaching and worship into a single hour to help busy families explore biblical truths together without adding another activity to their calendar. GROW allows young people to move at their own spiritual pace, culminating in a self-nominated confirmation when they feel personally ready to make their public profession of faith.

North Brisbane Youth Collaborative

Families of students in Years 7-12 are invited to PoP Church on Friday 13 February from 6pm to learn about a new youth group centred on community service. This is a shared effort between Prince of Peace and other Lutheran churches in North Brisbane. Click here to learn more and to RSVP.

Community News and Notices

Calling all artists and aspiring creatives!

LLL Australia, together with the Lutheran Church of Australia Queensland District, is delighted to announce the 2026 LLL Synod Art Competition to be held as part of next year’s convention of the Synod. Proudly sponsored by LLL Australia, this competition seeks to inspire and celebrate creativity across our District, while embracing the convention theme for the year.

Entrants are invited to create artworks reflecting the 2026 convention theme:

“Open Door to Spiritual Renewal: Reborn in Water, Renewed by the Spirit.”

Based on Titus 3:5: “He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”

With a range of age-group categories, this is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to express their faith through art. Winning entries from each category will be proudly displayed at the 2026 convention of the Synod, sharing the beauty of creativity and the message of renewal with our wider Lutheran community.
