Community Opinion
Your voice truly makes a difference at our College. Every piece of feedback we receive helps guide our path forward, and we’re committed to keeping the conversation open and lively. This year, keep an eye out for a series of quick, easy-to-complete surveys—sent your way by our Community Development and Enrolments Manager, Ms Donna Cook. These short check-ins will give you a say on important decisions, including the selection of our signature greeting cards (think Easter, Christmas and everyday cards featuring meaningful Bible verses) and the all-important task of choosing our College mascot and its name. We want these choices to reflect the heart of our community, so please jump in and help us shape our shared identity!
Staying connected matters, especially between parents and the College. We’ve listened to your feedback and are revamping how we stay in touch. This year, instead of online meet-ups, I invite all parent liaisons (our key communicators for each year level—whether via Facebook, year-level pages or informal chats) to join me for a relaxed ‘Cheese and Chat’ session once each term. We’ll rotate between the Library (JC) and the Auditorium (MSC), but don’t worry—everyone’s welcome at every venue, no matter your year level. It’s a fantastic opportunity to share your thoughts, celebrate what’s working, and suggest new ideas while enjoying sparkling water, non-alcoholic wine and, of course, a tasty cheese platter. Mark these dates in your diary:
- Term 1: Wednesday, 11/03/2026, 2:15 PM–3:00 PM (Week 7), JC Library
- Term 2: Monday, 01/06/2026, 2:15 PM–3:00 PM (Week 7), MSC Auditorium
- Term 3: Wednesday, 26/08/2026, 2:15 PM–3:00 PM (Week 7), MSC Auditorium
- Term 4: Wednesday, 18/11/2026, 2:15 PM–3:00 PM (Week 7), JC Library
Affirmation and Installation
In other exciting news, on Sunday, 8 February 2026, we gathered in joyful worship to celebrate the installation of Mrs Coreta Lennon as our new Head of Middle and Senior Campus. A heartfelt thank you goes to our Prince of Peace Lutheran Church – Pastor Nick Mullen, Chairman Mr Michael Stolz, and the entire Congregation for making this a memorable occasion. In the Lutheran tradition, we recognise such moments not simply as appointments to a role, but as a calling from God to serve the community through the gifts He has graciously given. We give thanks that the Holy Spirit continues to raise up faithful and capable leaders among us, reminding us that our work in education is a shared ministry grounded in Christ, who calls each of us to serve our neighbour with love and humility.
NISSA
What a joy and privilege it was to gather as one community for the NISSA Commencement Service here at Prince of Peace, a moment that reflected the rich grace of God at work among our schools. In the shared worship, the lifting of young voices, the reading of the Word, and the blessing spoken over our students and staff, we were reminded that our learning begins and ends in Christ, who is both our foundation and our future.
Like branches joined to the one true vine, we stood together in faith, hope and service, giving thanks for the gifts entrusted to each school and for the unity we share as brothers and sisters in Lutheran education. We pray that all who entered our College felt the warmth of this community and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, and that this beginning will bear fruit in lives shaped for wisdom, compassion and joyful service.

Student Voice
Contemporary research consistently shows that when students believe their voices are heard and valued, they are significantly more motivated, more engaged in their learning, and achieve stronger academic outcomes, with studies indicating increased agency, improved grades and reduced absenteeism in classrooms where student voice is actively embedded (Conner, Mitra, Holquist, Boat, 2024).
We’re also passionate about student voice and empowering student-led initiatives. Be sure to block out Monday, 08/06/2026, 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM in your calendar for our Student Summit – The Pitch, in the Middle Senior Campus Auditorium. This is where our students’ big ideas get heard—and where the community can get involved by sponsoring student initiatives. Interested in supporting or being part of the action? Reach out to Ms Donna Cook for details!
Alumni News: From Classroom to Campus to Career
Recently it has been shared that members of our Prince of Peace class of 2022 lead the way in engineering. So we are doing a shout out! It’s especially thrilling to follow our graduates’ journeys as they take those skills into university, their first jobs and beyond. Each year, our Alumni make their mark, and this time we’re spotlighting three outstanding 2022 graduates: Austin, Declan and Oliver. These mates have taken their love of STEM from the PoP classroom all the way to QUT, where they’re acing challenging double-degree programs. Austin and Declan have teamed Engineering (Honours) with Business (Finance), while Oliver has paired Engineering (Honours) with Architecture.
Thanks to the teamwork, problem-solving and analytical chops gained at Prince of Peace, these boys are thriving—each boasting a GPA above 6.5 and frequent spots on the QUT Dean’s List.
Their reputation goes beyond the classroom. At a recent QUT networking event, employers were actually lining up to meet “the three boys” after being tipped off by lecturers—not just for their smarts but for their character and can-do attitude.
What’s even more impressive, is that they are Securing Engineering Roles Early. Although still two years from graduation, all three have already landed roles with engineering firms and consultancies. Their early success is proof of the head start a PoP education provides—giving them hands-on experience, career networks, and a front-row seat to the future.
Through it all, Austin, Declan and Oliver have stayed close, studying and tackling projects together while supporting each other at every step. They’re part of a wider group of 2022 PoP graduates who are out there working hard, achieving great things, and speaking with pride about their time at our College.
Their journey is a testament to our commitment to STEM, our focus on nurturing confident, capable young adults, and the strength of a community that lasts long after graduation.
We couldn’t be prouder of these young men and their accomplishments, and we celebrate all our Alumni who continue to shine beyond the College gates.
Do you have an inspiring Alumni story to share? We’d love to hear from you! Please get in touch with Donna and Matt at popcorn@princeofpeace.qld.edu.au and your story could feature in a future edition of POPCORN.
I leave us all with the challenge “Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves” — Romans 12:10
Blessings and gratitude to you all.

Greet Card Competition & Bible Verse Survey: Join Us in Creating Something Special
Our College is excited to announce a new initiative that celebrates both our community’s creativity and our shared values. We are currently developing a suite of Easter, Christmas and General Greeting Cards that will be used when welcoming visiting dignitaries, guests and partners throughout the year. These cards are a meaningful reflection of who we are as a College, showcasing our community spirit, our values, our faith and the incredible talent within our community.
Junior Campus Greeting Card Art Competition
To make these cards truly special, we are inviting our Junior Campus students to contribute their artistic gifts through a Greeting Card Art Competition. Students will have the opportunity to create artwork that may be featured on the front of our official College greeting cards. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young artists to shine. Selected designs will not only be published but also shared with people who visit and build relationships with our College. We cannot wait to see the colour, imagination and joy our students will bring to this project. Information about this project will be shared shortly.
Bible Verse Survey for Parents & Carers
Alongside the artwork, each card will feature a meaningful piece of Scripture. In the spirit of collaboration, we are inviting our parent community to participate in our Bible Verse Survey to help us identify the verses that best represent the heart of our College.
Your contributions will help shape cards that speak hope, encouragement and faith into the lives of those who receive them. Whether it’s a verse of celebration, gratitude or blessing, we truly value your voice in this process.
Why This Matters
At the heart of this initiative is our commitment to celebrating student creativity and strengthening our College identity. By using artwork created by our own students and Scripture chosen by our families, each greeting card becomes a genuine expression of who we are as a community.
These cards will carry not just messages, but pieces of our collective story.
We look forward to seeing your contributions and sharing the beautiful results with you soon.

Toddle & Parent Orbit: How Our Transition Is Going?
Our transition to new systems is well underway, bringing fresh opportunities to improve how we communicate and collaborate as a College community.
We’re really enjoying the new-look Announcements—it’s amazing how a splash of colour can brighten the day and bring a little personality into our communication. Communication between staff and families is now in full swing, and we deeply value Toddle as a meaningful way to stay connected. Our staff continue to grow in confidence as they use Toddle in their daily work, and we appreciate your patience and partnership as we build strong habits with our new systems.
While Toddle is our preferred method of communication and as we transition between systems, you may receive messages by email and others through Toddle. If you’re not yet able to access Toddle or use Messages, please contact us via school@princeofpeace.qld.edu.au so we can support you.
Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday: Welcoming the Season of Lent
Shrove Tuesday offered us a sweet and joy‑filled beginning to Lent, as our P&F and Chappy Reilly led Pancakes with Purpose to support the work of Australian Lutheran World Service. With super‑yummy pancakes, the helping hands of our Year 6 leaders, Jon Shaner from the church, and many generous parent volunteers, it was a beautiful expression of community hospitality. These moments invited us to pause and reflect on the sweetness of God’s love and the way He draws us in with His gentle welcome.
The very next day, our Ash Wednesday service in The Shed offered a deeper, more contemplative reflection on Jesus’ work on the cross—another reminder of His love for us, expressed in a completely different but deeply meaningful way.
What a blessing to begin the season of Lent with these two companion moments: one joyful and celebratory, the other reflective and reverent. Together, they centre us again in the hope we have in Jesus, which sits at the heart of who we are as a College community.
Year 6 Leadership Installation
Friday February 20 in The Shed at 8:35am
As we look ahead in our week, we prepare to celebrate a special milestone for our Year 6 students—their Leadership Installation service this Friday in The Shed at 8:35 am. This moment marks the official beginning of their leadership year: a year of learning about themselves, growing responsibility, and discovering the purpose and service that leadership invites.
These beginnings take encouragement, guidance, skill‑building, and plenty of patience. We know children flourish when they are nurtured, supported, and given the confidence to try, learn, and try again—rather than fearing getting it wrong.
As we install our Year 6 leaders this week, I encourage our community to pray for them, support them, and find ways to build them up. They are remarkable young people, and I cannot wait to see how their leadership year unfolds and the blessings they will bring to our College community.
Congratulations, Edith
Recently Year 4 student, Edie, proudly represented PoP at the Stuartholme Dressage Day inter school competition, delivering outstanding results!
She placed 1st in one Dressage competition and 4th in the other, earning her the title of Reserve Champion in the primary school category.
With 18 riders competing (and most of them from Year 6), it was an impressive effort and a fantastic achievement for both Edie and PoP.
We are so proud of her dedication, sportsmanship, and talent. Special admiration must also go out to her talented (and very adorable) horse!
Congratulations, Edith!
PoP Welcome Picnic
Don’t forget our PoP Welcome Picnic this Friday! The recent rain has left the grass looking lush and perfect for an afternoon outdoors. We’ll have picnic games, good food, and of course—the slide! And fingers crossed… maybe this will be the year I finally win that elusive meat tray!
It’s always a wonderful way to gather as a College community, and I hope to see you there.
Be Blessed

A Focus on Gratitude
As mentioned in the last edition of POPCORN, we are grateful to be working with The Resilience Project (TRP) again this year. The Resilience Project is committed to teaching positive mental health strategies to prevent mental ill-health and build young people’s capacity to deal with adversity.
Teachers and students will engage in weekly lessons and activities around the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM), and Emotional Literacy to build resilience.
To find out more about TRP watch this short video, check out TRP@HOME, or visit the Family Hub.
This week, our staff and students are focusing on Gratitude and Kindness in their classrooms and at break times. Gratitude involves recognising and expressing appreciation for the things in our lives. Practising gratitude consistently and frequently can help us:
- Pay attention to the positives around us, which can increase feelings of happiness, optimism and life satisfaction
- Experience positive emotions linked to gratitude, which can impact our mood, self-esteem, stress levels and resilience.
- Enhance our relationships with others.
Other PoP Enrich Opportunities at Prince of Peace
The Junior Campus once again is offering a plethora of enriching extracurricular opportunities for our students.
This year we are rolling out a Year 3 strings program to add to our private music tutorage, chapel band and choir opportunities for students. Drama classes also continue this term and we are counting down to our musical ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ in May.
Modelling Kindness at Home

As a family, choose an act of kindness from the list below that you would like to do for a neighbour or family friend.
Each family member can select one to commit to, or you can choose to do one together.
- Cook them something delicious like a cake, hot bread, or cookies.
- Write a note to put in their letterbox thanking them for being a great neighbour or friend.
- Design them a Thank You card.
- Pick or buy some flowers to deliver to them.
- Choose a little plant from your garden to give them.
- Make them a gift from things around your house.
- Offer to do a job for them, like wash their car or water their garden.
- Offer to take their pets for a walk.
- Invite them over for afternoon tea.
- Invite them on a walk.
- Recommend one of your favourite books to borrow and read.
- Ask them if they need anything from the shops next time you buy groceries.
- Say hello next time you see them and ask them how their day is going.
Feel free to do more than one and spread the kindness even further!
A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. — Proverbs 11:25

So Much to Celebrate and be Thankful For
As we settle into the rhythm of the term, it has been heartening to witness just how much richness, joy, and purpose has filled our Middle and Senior School community in such a short time. These past weeks have offered us many opportunities to connect, to celebrate achievement, to grow in faith, and to strengthen the bonds that make our campus such a vibrant place of learning.
We were pleased to welcome families to our Senior College Parent Information Evening, where we shared key insights into the academic journey ahead and the many ways we walk alongside our students. This was followed by our Years 7–12, 2025 Academic Awards Assembly, a wonderful celebration of dedication and excellence. Each award recipient reminded us of the incredible potential within our student body.
We also entered a season of gratitude and service through the Year 12 Valentine’s Day Stall, Shrove Tuesday, and Ash Wednesday. These moments have reminded us of the importance of community, kindness, and reflection as we journey through Lent together.
Across all of these events, one thing has been clear: we have so much to celebrate and be thankful for. I am deeply proud of our students and grateful for the staff and families who support them so generously each day.
‘I am, because we are’ Year 9 Ubuntu Calling Ceremony
Our Year 9 Ubuntu, Calling Ceremony provided a meaningful moment of reflection and community, inviting students to consider the values of connection, responsibility, and shared humanity.
What makes this moment of commitment from our young people so meaningful? It represents a willingness to respond, to notice what is needed around them and to step forward with purpose. It marks the beginning of a new journey, one that invites growth, self‑discovery, and thoughtful consideration of how they contribute to the world around them.
Our hope for our Year 9 students is that this year becomes a time of deepening their understanding of themselves and their place within the community. At the centre of Ubuntu is the belief, “I am because we are”, a reminder that our identities are shaped both individually and collectively. Two guiding questions will accompany them as they navigate this year: Who am I? And who are we becoming together?
Year 7 Camp – Warrawee
Beyond these ceremonies, learning has extended well beyond the classroom walls. Our Year 7 students embraced adventure, teamwork, and resilience at Camp Warrawee, forming friendships and memories that will set the tone for their year ahead. Their time away provided valuable opportunities for personal growth as they stepped outside their comfort zones, supported one another through challenges, and discovered the importance of cooperation and trust within their cohort.
It has been wonderful to see how this shared experience has strengthened their connections and helped establish a positive foundation for the year.
Love Is in the Air
Year 12s Launch Their 2026 Legacy Project with Heart and Community Spirit
Our Year 12 students kicked off their first fundraising initiative for their 2026 Legacy Project with a vibrant and joy‑filled Valentine’s Day Stall on Friday, 13 February. It was a wonderful way to begin their year of service to the Prince of Peace community, and the enthusiasm shown by students and staff alike set a positive tone for the journey ahead.
The stall was a lively celebration of friendship and kindness, featuring a delicious bake sale, heartfelt serenades, and the always‑popular rose deliveries. These thoughtful touches brought plenty of smiles across the campus and created a warm sense of connection among students.
A sincere thank you goes to all the Year 12 students who helped organise, bake, sing, and serve; to the families who contributed goods and support; and to the staff who assisted in making the event such a success. Your collective efforts have helped lay a strong foundation for a meaningful Legacy Project in 2026.
We look forward to seeing the Year 12 cohort continue to lead with generosity and creativity as they develop their legacy for the Prince of Peace community.
Communication Reminder
A reminder to parents that we are no longer using email to communicate with staff. Please use Toddle to send messages to teachers and staff.
Toddle provides a simple and efficient way for families to communicate directly with their child’s teachers. To send a message, open the app and select the Messaging option. From there, tap the + icon to start a new conversation, choose the teacher you wish to contact, and a chat window will open, allowing you to send your message instantly. This process helps streamline communication and ensures your message goes straight to the right person.
Just a reminder that all communication to staff needs to be done through Toddle.

Promoting Wellbeing During NAPLAN Testing
As we move closer to the NAPLAN period in Middle School, I wanted to share some simple ways you can support your child and help them feel comfortable and confident throughout the testing process.
At the Middle School Campus, we work very intentionally to make NAPLAN a low‑stress experience. Tests for both Years 7 and 9 are held in the same room for each cohort and at the same time to provide consistency and familiarity for all students.
For each test session, students will need to bring:
- a pen
- a water bottle
- plug‑in headphones or earphones (Bluetooth devices can’t be used)
Our NAP Browser installation will be finalised this week, and students will complete a short practice test on Thursday and Friday. This run‑through allows them to refresh their understanding of the platform and the test routines so that everything feels familiar on the day.
How you can support your child during NAPLAN:
- Offer extra encouragement and reassurance. A calm, supportive presence at home makes a big difference.
- Remind them that NAPLAN is simply one tool that helps teachers understand learning progress, not a measure of their worth or overall ability.
- Talk about NAPLAN as part of their learning journey. Every experience helps them grow.
- Notice and celebrate their strengths in everyday moments.
- Keep an eye out for signs of stress and let us know if you have any concerns.
Please reach out to the College if you need any assistance or would like to discuss how best to support your child during this time. We are here to help.
Ash Wednesday
On Wednesday 18 February our school community came together to observe Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the season of Lent. During our Ash Wednesday services, students and staff were invited to pause and reflect through prayer and Scripture. The receiving of ashes served as a powerful reminder of our humanity and our dependence on God’s grace, while also encouraging us to consider how we might grow in faith, compassion, and service as we journey toward Easter.
It was a reverent and meaningful time for our community, setting a reflective and purposeful tone for the Lenten season ahead.
Blessings,
Coreta Lennon
Acting Head of Campus — Senior Campus
Inspiring Minds & Shaping Futures: Years 7–12, 2025 Academic Awards Assembly
We gathered to recognise and celebrate the hard work, dedication, and academic excellence demonstrated by our students across Years 7–12 in 2025. This event welcomes back our Alumni and shines a spotlight on the outstanding academic accomplishments of our Year 7–12 learners from 2025 as we acknowledge their commitment to learning.
Middle School Leader Installation Service
This week, we gathered with our Year 9 students and their families for our Middle School Leader Installation Service, a special occasion honouring those who have stepped forward to serve as leaders in 2026. It was a meaningful moment of blessing and affirmation as we recognised the commitment these young people have made to lead with integrity, kindness, and courage.
The service invited our newly appointed leaders to reflect on the responsibility they hold within our community and the impact they can have through their words, actions, and example. Families joined us in celebrating this milestone, offering their encouragement as students embark on this important role in their final year of Middle School.
We are incredibly proud of each student who has accepted the call to lead and are confident they will serve our community with heart and purpose in the year ahead.

Junior Campus Sport
North District Swimming
On Monday, seven of our Junior Campus students represented PoP at the North District Swimming Event held at Lawnton Aquatic Centre. Competing in the 50m Freestyle, Backstroke, and Breaststroke events, each swimmer demonstrated outstanding determination and sportsmanship.
From this event, six students have now qualified for the Regional Championships on Monday 2 March, an incredible achievement and a testament to their hard work in training at their respective clubs. We wish these swimmers all the very best as they strive to secure a place at the State Championships later in March.
Congratulations to the following students:
- Ben Isles – 11 Years 50m Breaststroke
- Noah Mulready– 11 Years 50m Backstroke
- Darcy Christison – 10 Years 50m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke
- Luca Larder – 10 Years 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke
- Viyan Rivaz– 10 Years 50m Backstroke
- Finn Gordon– 10 Years 50m Backstroke
Junior School North District Sport Trials Process 2026
Please take a moment to review the North District Sport Website link outlining the calendar dates and mark them on your calendars. The eligibility for participation is for students aged 10, 11, and 12 years, born in the years 2016, 2015 and 2014 respectively.
https://metnorthschoolsport.eq.edu.au/district-sport/our-districts/north
This is an excellent chance for students with experience and high skill levels in the sport to participate in the North District trials. Students must have experience in the sport and with the new 2026 Rule — schools can only send a maximum of four students to each trial. When there are more than four students wanting to attend, a school trial will be conducted first. Students will be selected from the school trial to participate at the district trial.

Speaking of playing instruments, our private tuition and ensembles have started back this week. Tutors are corresponding with parents via Outlook Email! We are working to streamline this system but didn’t want to hold up the start of tuition or ensembles. All of our amazing tutors are here again bringing students out of class for one to one lessons on their instruments.
Please note that this week we say farewell to our loved Strings Tutor Toukie Woods who has been offered full time work teaching strings in another context. We are thrilled for you Toukie but devastated for our loss. The College will be working hard to find a new tutor to support our string students.
If you want to join the Co-Curricular Music program we have the following tutors:
Thom Fletcher – woodwind and Concert Band – Tfletcher@princeofpeace.qld.edu.au
Hilary Harrison – voice and Showchoir – HHarrison@princeofpeace.qld.edu.au
Kieran Kuskopf – drums and Drumming Circle – KKuskopf@princeofpeace.qld.edu.au
Royce Jenner – guitar, piano and Jazz Extensions – RJenner@princeofpeace.qld.edu.au
You can email the tutors to get more details as to costs and specific time options for each tutor and ensemble or to set up a trial lesson. Please identify students clearly with full names and year levels. Alternatively, FORMS are available on the website for both private tuition and ensembles. Please return these to Linda Brady, Curriculum Leader for The Arts LBrady@princeofpeace.qld.edu.au

Welcome to 2026!
We hope you know that the church is here as a resource for all of our College families, even if you come from a different faith tradition (or none at all). You can always find information about church events, groups you can join, and much more on our website or in the Church Center app.
First Communion
Prince of Peace invites children aged 10 and over to embark on a meaningful faith journey through a six-week First Communion preparation course, starting this Sunday, 22 February at 10.30am. This family-centred program combines engaging home-based lessons with two interactive group sessions, allowing parents to play an active role in their child’s spiritual growth. The experience culminates in a special celebration during the Palm Sunday worship service, where participants receive the sacrament for the first time alongside their families and church community.
Confirmation
GROW is a fresh, family-oriented approach to confirmation designed specifically for students in Years 7-12. Meeting fortnightly on Sundays, the program integrates teaching and worship into a single hour to help busy families explore biblical truths together without adding another activity to their calendar. GROW allows young people to move at their own spiritual pace, culminating in a self-nominated confirmation when they feel personally ready to make their public profession of faith.

At Pine Hills Netball Club, we are finalising our teams for the 2026 season. We still have spaces in some age groups, 7-10 years, 14 years and older.
If you are still looking for a club, then we would love to include you in our teams. If you are new to netball, that’s not a problem. That’s what we specialise in, teaching you to play. If you are experienced and super competitive, we can absolutely accommodate you as well. Everyone is welcome at Pine Hills.
You can contact Susan Hird at secretary@pinehillsnetball.club for any information you may need.
Calling all artists and aspiring creatives!
LLL Australia, together with the Lutheran Church of Australia Queensland District, is delighted to announce the 2026 LLL Synod Art Competition to be held as part of next year’s convention of the Synod. Proudly sponsored by LLL Australia, this competition seeks to inspire and celebrate creativity across our District, while embracing the convention theme for the year.
Entrants are invited to create artworks reflecting the 2026 convention theme:
“Open Door to Spiritual Renewal: Reborn in Water, Renewed by the Spirit.”
Based on Titus 3:5: “He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”
With a range of age-group categories, this is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to express their faith through art. Winning entries from each category will be proudly displayed at the 2026 convention of the Synod, sharing the beauty of creativity and the message of renewal with our wider Lutheran community.
